You know, I've been thinking that, given that the focus of the first XP was multiplayer , and that this new XP will be focused on Conflicts in History, then maybe the focus of the next XP could be Diplomacy and Trade! They could introduce new diplomatic and trade concepts through a variety of historical Scenarios, such as the "Silk Road", the heady politics and dramas of late 19th century Europe, and the Cold War of the modern age!

If this were to happen, then some obvious concepts I'd like to see introduced might be:
Diplomacy:

1) Variable length agreements.
2) Cease-Fire Agreements.
3) Protectorates and Vassal states.
4) Land and Unit Trading.
5) Civil Wars and Revolutions.
6) Multilateral diplomacy.
7) Science and Environment Pacts.
8) A greater variety of religions 'types', available for study, and a greater role for religion in diplomacy, culture and trade!
9) A 'new and improved' Senate!!

Trade:

1) Concept of resource 'size' (from 1-10, for example), that effects the disappearance rate of that resource, and it's value in trade.
2) The disappearance rates of luxuries and resources should also be tied to # of cities, and the # of units and buildings the Civ has built that require said resource.
3) A means for Civs to 'Raid' cities for resources and money, and for trade routes to be pirated for quick cash!
4) Trade (both internal and external) in commodities-i.e. production 'shields' and 'Food'!
5) 'Visible' Trade Routes

Other concepts which could be introduced are:
1) Cultural and Naval Great Leaders.
2) Variable Unit maintainence costs.
3) Operational Ranges, for units, to limit how far they can operate away from 'friendly territory' (be it a city, cultural territory, or a fortress!)
4) Building Dependant Units!
5) 'Rebasing' for Naval units, and a slight weakening of the 'Infinite RR' system!

The last three, it would be hoped, would make the contruction, maintainence and USE of a standing army a much more long-term, strategic balancing act, and hopefully forcing players and AI alike to resort to Diplomacy on a far more frequent basis!
Anyway, just a few thoughts :)! Hopefully, these and other ideas, posted here now, might influence the Firaxians in how the develop the NEXT XP-it certainly seemed to have worked with the current one ;) :)!!!

Great Idea! But I would prefer it in civ4 since that game could be revolutionary instead of old civ3 code pushed to the limit.

While I would like to see Civ4 eventually, I want the Civ3 code to be pushed to the limit in the interim.

I agreee with YOU Warpstorm :) ;)! Personally, I'd like to see enough XP's released, in the future, to see each element of the original Civ3 game pushed to the absolute limit! Either in the next XP, or another future one, for example, they could really shake up the whole nature of government selection by AI civs, and perhaps introduce a whole load of new concepts to both old and new governments! Also, reintroduction of the Civ2 Senate-with a whole lot of Civ3 'tweaks', would also be GREAT to see :) :)!!!

I like this idea. Maybe they are working on it right now for a next fall release. Alot of those ideas seem relatively easy and we might even get some in a patch for C3C.

I assume that until Conquests actually ships they aren't working on the next release of Civ (if there is even going to be one). They've got to get this one in stores first.

BUMP ;) :D!!!

Actually, aside from a Cold War and Silk Road Scenario, I think another fantastic Scenario, to highlight new Diplomacy and Trade features, could be one called 'Rise of Great Britain'! It could start just after the departure of the Romans, and your goal could be to unite the British people under your rule, and lead them to greatness by a combination of diplomacy and trade (and a little conflict ;))! The map would consist of the British Isles and Western Europe, and you'd have to deal with Baronial and Peasant Revolts, an Unruly Parliament (the 'Senate') and even a CIVIL WAR!!!
Anyway, just another idea!!

Another intriguing Scenario possibility, from a diplomacy point of view, might be Europe during the time of the Hapsburgs!! There was some truly convoluted diplomacy and politics going on during that period of history!!

This should be in Civ4, because it is way to much to change for an expansion pack. You guys don't want to work Firaxis too hard. :)

This is a great idea Aussie. :goodjob:

Maybe if they were to do this, they could also improve the U.N., that is, give it some of its real life functions such as peacekeeping, solving disputes between nations, etc., instead of having the UN simply be a path to victory.

But, on second thought, isn't "functions of the UN" an oxymoron? ;)

Here is my theory (or what it SHOULD be) on the XP's and CIV4:

Civ 3: Diplomacy - A couple new diplomacy options including enhanced blockades, unit cost and op-range variables, trade routes but not as much as the title would suggest. Also four new conquests, Alexander the Great, Mongol Hordes, Rise of USA, WW2 including new units, techs, and bldgs added to existing conquests.

Civ 4: Completely redone, including enhanced graphics and maybe a 3-D city view? All of the previous 13 scenarios redone bigger and better. More diplomacy options that disappointed loyal fans with C3:Diplo. Quite possibly the perfect games with three new XP's enhancing the combat system, the editor, and then other smaller new options. Afterwards CIV5, CIV6, and then CIV is over, that will be a sad day...
