Okay heres my problem. A while ago my computer died and i had to reinstall everything on it and the only game i install was Civ 3 because its such a great game and i needed to play it.
I had planned not to install any games until i bought a second hard drive for that purpose.
Anyway I did just that and i uninstalled the Civ 3 on my C drive to install it on my new D drive...the CD rom was moved to E.
And it uninstalled fined. And i went to install on D and half way thru installation my comp crashed.
So i ran scan disk and fixed the probs on my comp, and tried to reinstall, but when i put in the CD the auto run window came up with Play civ 2; Uninstall Civ 3; Reinstall civ 3. So i tried uninstalling again, and it ran thru the motions of an uninstallation, and said it had completed uninstalling the game.
So again i ran the CD and the auto run came up showing the same thing...Play; Uninstall; Reinstall.
Which is weird cause there wasnt a game on my computer at all. So i ran a find files n folders search for anything with Civ in it, and found some files relating to Civ 3 including a copy of the civ3.exe file in the windows directory which was weird.
I deleted them and tried the CD again. Same thing. Play; Uninstall; Reinstall.
But theres nothing, NOTHING there to reinstall! OR Uninstall!
I dont get it...I have no idea why its doing this?
Two things i should mention, one the Civilization III thing still appears in the add/remove programs window under control panel, and when i try to uninstall even tho there isnt files it actually COPIES the Civilization III.exe to the windows directory and DOESNT remove it.

Im well over the requirements if thats what you want to know, ive played it before ive had the game a month.
Windows 98 SE.
AMD k6-500 processor.
188mb RAM
48x cd-rom
30gb hard drive
direct x 8
support 32-bit colour.

I know this is no help, but I had exactly the same problem, but I arrived at it in a different way.
I installed Double Your Pleasure scenario.
It was a disaster. A few units were changed, but no new governments or civs.
I uninstalled it and had your problem.
I uninstalled civ3, following all the steps you did and had the same result. Impossible to uninstall. Impossible to reinstall.

Even searching for anything remotely associated with Civ3 and deleting it.

Fortunately I have Win XP and I reverted to a set up before installing the scenario.
Everything is fine now, but it was very worrying and frustrating.

I would be interested in a solution in case it happens again, but I have learned my lesson with scenarios.:(

I emailed the people at infogrames UK and i got this response.

Hi,

You probably still have the install shield information on your hard drive. To remove this please do the following.

Double click MY COMPUTER > C:\ drive > PROGRAM FILES

You will now need to ensure that you can see all hidden files and folders. To do this :-

Windows XP - click TOOLS > FOLDER OPTIONS > VIEW TAB > here you will see a checkbox called 'show all hidden files and folders' put a check in it.

Windows 98/me - click VIEW > FOLDER OPTIONS > VIEW TAB > here you will see a checkbox called 'show all hidden files and folders' put a check in it.

In the program files folder you will now see a folder called Installshield Installation Information. Open this folder.

Create a new folder in here and call it backup.

Now cut all the other folders in the Installshield Installation Information folder and paste them into the new backup folder.

Once this has been done you should be able to install the game again.

Now cut all the folder out of the new backup folder and paste them back into the Installshield Installation Information answering NO to overwriting any files.

Please reply all mails with full history so that your problem can be dealt with in a timely fashion.

Andrew Craig

lol what is it difficult to get a reply from infogrames?
if you tried did u go to ina-support.com or did u just email the infogrames website? if u emailed the website that could be why u got ignored hehe

I tried every support facility I could find.

The American ones said they did not give support to foreigners.

They gave me the Australian address.
I tried that... it bounced.

I tried the sales agent for Australia. He gave me one of those phone numbers that cost an arm and a leg per second and gives you no help at all, since it is automated.:(

well the UK infogrames replied within a day...

Give you a tip when u fone one of those, "If you have such and such a problem press one" lines dont press anything. at all
eventually a human will pick up.

hey esca did it work? have u tried it?
