No embassies ?

Hi guys,

this my first post here.
I've run into something that seems like a bug.
I cannot open embassies. Double-clicking the capital city icon just has the screen jump out of focus (and sometimes not) but no dialog pops up.
The only embassy I've got was the one built right after "discovering" writing. The icon on the city with the Spy facility in it works fine... Establishing embassies worked fine in previous games...
I'm playing version 1.21g on MacOS X.
Any help would be greatly appreciated !

In order to establish an embassy, you need to chose Conduct espionage from the city's contextual menu (pop-up menu or whatever).

You will get the contextual menu by Ctrl+Click:ing on the capital.

Ctrl+Click is useful throughout the game, use it on units, terrain, whatever...

Also, if playing with more than 7 opponents, Shift+Ctrl+Click will let you chose another opponent in the Foreign Advisor screen.

BTW, Ctrl+Click simulates the second (right) button on the PC side. I use a two-buttoned mouse on my mac (OS X) myself and it's really useful (not only in Civ3). I do recommend buying one (or at least trying one) if you got some extra cash.

Make sure your double-clicking on the "star" next to your captial city's name.

1.21g? Really? Where did you get it?

1) No it's actually 1.17g. Sorry
2) Well, I figured how it *should* work (clicking on the star). If you read my previous post attentively, you see that it *used* to work as it should. It doesn't anymore. Also, the Diplomacy screen is screwed up. (Converting back to Middle Ages icons and displaying wrong government information...)

3) So, in short, double-clicking on the star is what doesn't work :(

Thanks a heap, mwaf. It worked ! Actually, I was using the contextual menu extensively already but I just didn't figure that "conduct espionage" lets you establish embassies... (Is that politically correct ? ;-)
As for the more-button mouse, I totally agree with you. I'm an old time Mac user and the ctrl-click stuff always annoyed me.
So, I have been using "real" mouses for a long time. Currently I'm using a 3-button mouse with a scrollwheel...
Actually, this was the one thing that I preferred on a PC... Great thing that Apple has buit-in support for right-mouse buttons and scroll wheels now in OS X.
While you're right that ctrl+click is Apple's usual translation for "right-click" there were some games that changed the key mapping. So instead of comfortably righ-clicking as in the PC version you ended up having to use the cmd (Apple) key !
Anyway, thanks again.Paljon kiitoksia.
I didn't change back to 1.17g. It's the version I was playing all the time. the 1.21 thing was I mistake...

I have scroll-wheeled two button mouse myself. Which actually make up for three buttons since the scroll-wheel is pressable.

The fact that some applications use combination than Crtl+Click isn't really a problem for me since the Mouse Preference panel lets me conveniently specify different settings for all apps. I have a Mircosoft mouse so I needed to download an IntelliPoint Mouse Preference Panel for that.
