In my game the Sicilians have assainated 5 popes in a row and there is only 1 preferati left who i am about to assasinate. What happens if if the pope dies with no preferati left?
Does anyone else have this problem.

:hmm: Interesting. I expect the next Preferati elected will be Pope. I notice this is over a month old. What happened?

It happened again and again the pope lived really long, seemingly the pope won't die if there is no preferati.

one of 13 pssible popes, btw you can't assanate the pope in M2TW only MTW

Why bother having suck an option then? I thoght I saw a video on the website or somewhere where an assassin uses a crossbow to kill the Pope. The Pope in my game was sleeping in a shabby bed!

i prefer the easy way to kill a pope. get some crossbows to attack his personal guard... he will just sit there as you kill him and all his troops. eventually you should run out of popes. of course i did this to 5 popes until only my cardinal was pope... so unless your willing to kill a pope of your own id suggest not bothering.

In M2TW they always go somewhere else (again unlike the (better) original)

I think that's a good feature. The main focus of the game is the Catholic factions, hence being 13 of them. If the Pope disappeared, a factor of the Catholic factions has. So the Pope has to stay, even after annhiliated. :)

Saying that, after taking Rome I have never seen where they move to. How long does it take them? Do they just 'acquire' a settlement or still take it by force? Or does a Catholic faction give a settlement to them?

A catholic faction gives it to them and in the original they rebel and rebel a lot (the pope that is) if you capture them so there is a 90% chance of them coming back.

If you kill the last preferati, there is no pope. None. The seat stays empty until there is a new preferati.
