Erst denken, dann lenken

January 21st, 1944
0600 Hrs

The sound of my pen briskly sliding across the paper before me was the only sound made, as I sat silent in my brand new office. It had formerly belonged to the Commander of U-101, but it was passed to me, when his U boat was sunk by depth charges dropped by a destroyer while attempting to take out a large convoy. He had managed to fire off a single AFT torpedo which just as U-101 hit the bottom of the Mediterranean, managed to slam into the back of the destroyer which had sunk U-101.

Anyways, he was awarded the Knights Cross with Oak leaves which was given to his mother who lived in Stuttgart. It was a privilege to have the office of such a respected officer such as him.

Now, my first order of business was to become acquainted with my new crew all of whom, should be showing up any minute at Dock 5 to hop aboard our newly built VIIC U Boat and take it out for a spin among other things.

OOC:
Alright, now this my first post on Civilization Fanatics Center, and my first AAR however, don't underestimate me. I have read many AAR's during the last, I don't know three months, not only here, but all over this magnificant World Wide Web. So, anyone can take any position other than the Capitan. Hopefully, this will brign in soem attention, and yes I do know that this OOC is long and drawn out, I've been told I'm logn winded so bear with me. The last thing is that the above post is only the begining, and I plan on making the updates much logner than this and for them to be accompanied by many wonderful photos.

Now then, I'll see you all at Dock 5 whenever you arrive although late joiners are welcome since at the begining, the crew will most likely be fairly small.

I'll check back in tommorow afternoon to get the first update going. See you all later!

Can I have a navigation job please?

Flak gunner Rheinmetall reporting for duty.

Rheinmetall: Welcome aboard!

PrinceScamp: Glad to have ya, and thanks for the compliment.

Kan' Sharuminar: Thank you! I've been looking for about two months for a place where I could do a Silent Hunter III AAR.

This is the Captain of the ship:

Alright, now as you can see, the ship is part of the 29th Flotilla, stationed in Toulon. I have made a few minor changes to the intro post, mainly being that I will be using a career that I had already been using meaning that my officer is not new, which is really the only thing that has changed besides the starting date. So, let’s begin!

IC:
The rumbling underneath me was unsettling to be quite frank. I preferred the gently swaying of the open seas, over the constant jumps and stops of the land. If I could have, I would have walked to my ship instead of ride in the small Volkswagen Kübelwagen that would now be my main mode of transportation on land. Still, no matter how comfortable it may have been, I still felt more at home in a trusty U-Boat, gliding effortlessly across the waves of the seas around the world. Today was my first patrol, and I couldn’t have been happier after being landlocked for well over two months as I got myself settled into my new home. The docks of Toulon weren’t much different than La Spezia, the only real difference was the people that worked around and on them.

Anyways, the Volkswagen suddenly came to a halt, and as I peered out the back passenger window, I saw it. U-69, my pride and joy. The ship had taken me through many rough days, and I new that it could still take my through many more. As my door was quietly opened by the driver of the Kübelwagen, I slipped out and adjusted my newly pressed suit before beginning to walk towards the ship. I could only see the Conning tower from where I was, because the rest of my beloved ship was hidden behind two large warehouses, where there was undoubtedly a large amount of torpedo’s, decoys, and flak ammunition for any U-Boat that would need it. However, just as the bow began to come into view, I caught a glimpse of my new crew. There were a large number of them, 51 to be exact, and they were lined up in five rows, ten to a row which left one sad soul left, and he was in a row all by himself, standing quietly at the front. As I approached, the chatty crew caught sight of me and straightened themselves out.

I took my stance directly in front of the new crew. I stood silent for a few seconds, scanning over the group of men. I threw my arm out forward as a salute and they did the same yelling out the name of our great leader even though times were hard. They all stood silent as they lowered their arms, as did I and I quickly addressed them as I stepped in closer. “I am not your mother, and I am not your father. I am your commander, and I will lead you through the fields of glory!” I yelled out and motioned for the men to be at ease before we all boarded onto the U-Boat to get ready for our first patrol.

As we came in one by one, I took my spot quietly out of the way of the hatch to allow my men to climb down, I silently stood awaiting the arrival of my Navigator, whom would lay out the course for our patrol.

OOC: Navigator, take it away! Pick any grid you see fit for a patrol, and lay out a course for us to follow.

Oh, right, I can't find a map, I'm afraid. Can I suggest, though, we go into the Irish Sea to patrol?

I suppose thats alright, a long travel, will most likely take more than a week to travel there. I'll post an update as soon as possible.
