No trade routes in MP?

Hello all -- I am new to this forum, and new to Civ V. I played my first MP game last night (private) and found a serious bug, I think.

When I complete a road from my capital to another city, I get the notification on the right proudly announcing, "a trade route has been established!" Only it hasn't been established as far as I can tell. There is no trade route symbol under the city name, and when I open the city screen and click on the gold section to view modifiers, there is no bonus for a trade route.

I guess this is one of those things that would be fixed with a patch. Someone once told me I would get patches automatically. How can I tell if I have in fact installed all the patches? How many patches have there been? How do I know when another one is coming?

Yes, I'm a total noob. Thanks for the help, guys.

Again, like you post on the trade offers in diplomacy, I have never seen this issue and all of my trade routes work fine in MP (and actually that is one thing that has worked since the beginning as far as I know). I would suggest seeking out the latest patches if you haven't already, but these items work for everyone I have talked to- so it appears you, your settings, or your install is the problem. Sorry.

How do I find patches? But as you said, if no one else is having this problem, it's not likely to be something that can be fixed with a patch. For future reference, though, I should know how to get patches.

If it's a problem with my settings, what setting could possibly be affecting trade routes? Any ideas? I haven't had any problems in SP, so I think my install is fine.

Eh, Civilization 5 should always come with Steam, and it would patch through Steam automatically (unless you've turned that feature off).

I've noticed the trade routes won't show the turn the route is actually finished. For some reason the game checks for trade routes before finishing builds. Incorrect order, if you ask me.

Last night I play tested your issue and I actually saw what you were talking about. I too had cities that were connected to my capital (and the established trade route note popped up) but there was no trade icon on the cities that were connected. I have never seen this before so I am guessing it has to do with the latest patch (which means you are likely up to date- BTW using steam auto-updates the latest patch). Either way, the good news was that the trade routes still provided the gold and increased as the cities pop increased. I also noted some weird road graphics where the roads were not visually connected but the trade route was (because the tile was improved), but they seemed to fix themselves after a few turns.

Oddly, I played again and the trade route symbol was there... so it seems there is some crazy factor that plays into it. In the first game I had rivers crossed with my roads and not in the second, so I loaded that first game up and researched Construction to see if that 'connected' them differently somehow (since it provides bridges), but nope. So fortunately and unfortunately, looks like it is a bug, but you're not the only one! Good news was the game still ran fine.

Yes i noticed these glitches too. Fortunately, the trade system still work.

Yeah, I've seen this too. I just check that the +gold is correct, and then ignore it.

They work, but the last patch killed the symbols showing them and also killed them working on city states asking for trade routes.

A friend and I are playing on two iMacs. Every game we play his trade routes aren't recognized. There are no symbols present and the trade routes are grayed out in the economic adviser, which I assume it means that there are no trade routes.

Anyone have any thoughts on a fix for this?
