No wonder Succession Game: Slowboat to Alpha Centauri

It's slightly more difficult if you are not allowed to build or capture any wonders, meaning an AI civ must build Apollo.
Also meaning our science rate was not that high because of no SSC, and conquest is tougher than usual as wonder cities must be razed instead of captured...

Even as this is winding down, I was wondering if there was a desire for another succession game. I recall Smash mentioning that there were masochists who clicked ahead to 1 AD before "starting"...

But I wonder if they ever did it on a Giga Map in MGE?

I was kind of disappointed when we switched from Classic to MGE. I'd like to see something like the Pacifist Challenge done on Classic only. You cannot do a GigaMap, but you can go to something like 85x125.

I would definitely be interested in something like a gigamap succession game, actually I was thinking of mentioning the idea but Old n Slow did so first.

Maybe a game similar to this one but on a gigamap would be fun. I love having 50+ cities in a succession game - much more so than in a 'regular' game since I do not have to play all of the turns :D.

BTW what's a pacifist challenge ? From the name I imagine an army of 100+ howitzers and stealth fighters plus the use of nukes wouldn't be popular in that kind of game ;).

I'm probably up for another challenge, although the prospect of managing 100's of cities in the late game may make it difficult for me to keep up the pace. At that point, you may not want me. I'll try to work faster next time.

I don't think I'm up for anything as wild as the Silly Rules game, but I wouldnt mind making up a few extra restrictions to force us to think our way through.

(I too am wondering what the Pacifist Challenge is. My first thought was that any succession game played with TheViking is a pacifist's challenge ;) , but somehow I don't think that's what you meant!)

Andemagne resurrected it over at Apolyton.Net. No building or owning of any unit that has Attack>0. The way I played it before, you could build mil-units for defense only, never using them to attack (even BarbLeaders). Hard to do on MGE, but a bit easier on Classic. Win by Spaceship; bribing allowed (but not sabotage).

Bribing of units only, I presume? Spies would not be a pacifist weapon if they can bribe cities.

Not much point to bribing units if you cannot own them (of course it gets them out of the way).

Re: cities, you could look at it like "cultural flip" in Civ3...

Then again, having no way to "take down" the AI would make it quite a challenge later on. Sort of a "forced Early Landing" game.

Bribing units can be a slightly more active defense than simply letting the units attack a city, even if you just disband them right away (or is that not allowed). Plus, it's always nice to have some extra NONE engineers.

The perfectionist "builders" are chafing at the slow pace of our war-mongering cage-rattler...

Trying to see how many you can eliminate before the landing?

Well we all know I can't complain about speed. last time I played I probably spent 2 hours each turn just plotting out where to send caravans and how to ship them (from-to airports, ship chains etc.) for maximum benefit. Then there was warmongering, production planning, rush buying, on top of that. I had my type of fun...If Viking wants to wipe out the planet, he can take all the time he wants!

Exactly. I'm now on my last turn (1874 AD) with three AI civs eliminated and one frustratringly close to elimination but it can't be destroyed until 1875 AD because I lack one stealth fighter and several spies to poison some water supplies.

Wow! That's some impressive carnage. :goodjob:
If it had been left to me, I think I might have managed to take out the Mongol's two remaining cities in the same period.

If you want to play pacifist, you can find an island and use the resources you save from wars to build a "wall" of fortresses on the perimiter of your island, then man them. It will be very hard to land on your island to take your cities. Just a thought...

As long as we're playing classic, my thought was an OCC game. Maybe with a real small city so we'd always be pathetic and have the "sympathy" of the AIs while our ship sailed off to AC.

What's the point of an OCC succession game? It would go very fast, and would probably take more time to write the report then to actualy play the turns. If you want to play OCC, you should probably play it yourself.
