Non-Agrression Pact

I suggest that in Civ IV there be a simple treaty that can be signed with other civs, which would stop aggression between two civs. More than a simple peace treaty, civs in a non-aggression pact would not attack each other no matter what.

Say Japan and Russia are in a non-aggression pact, while Japan is also in a mutual-protection pact with Germany. Germany declares war on Russia and attacks. Now Japan has a choice, it can either break it's treaty with Germany and fight Russia, or it can break it's treaty with Germany and stay out of the war altogether.

What do you guys think?

i think i get your ultimate goal would be...to get rid of the super annoying just made peace but then someone they have a mpp with just attacked you so now there at war with you..i think this is a good alternitive to a mutual protection pact. maybe only breakable by nogotiation. hmmm...i think it could work

We have "non-aggression pacts." They're called "peace." Now, if you want to eliminate the reputation hit that results from being between a rock and a hard place, that's something else entirely, and it's only an AI thing.

I think that a non-agression pact with a civ, could simply allow you to ignore a MPP that would make you declare war on the said civ, but WITHOUT taking a rep hit, nor nullyfying the MPP.
Or perhaps nullyfying the MPP, but still prevent any rep hit.

That should be reversed. I mean, peace means simply "not war," but a non-aggression pact is not war plus the promise of not war for some time to come. So breaking a peace shouldn't have a reputation hit, but breaking a non-aggression pact should.

I don't place a whole lot of importance on this issue, however, because reputation is an AI hack. The thing to do is to fix or eliminate reputation, not come up with tweaks and band-aids.
