Sorry if this isn't the right place to ask but this really bugs me.

In the normal course of play you can mouseover an enemy city (or unit stack) to see what units are in it if you have one of your units close enough. However on my setup, if the list is too long, it appends the "..." to what it can show, and omits the rest.

Is there a normal way to see all the units, or even just a count (I know there is a cheatcode to do so)?

In a recent game, I got attacked by no less than 30 skull catapults from a city that in the previous turn had only six defenders. If I had know the AI had moved 80+ units into the city, I probably wouldn't have gone up to that city. Kinda ruins the tactical for me when I can't tell the difference between "a whole bunch of guys" and Xerces' million.

Isn't that how it's always been in vanilla Civ4? AFAIK only in Warlords do you get a count of all units in the tile.

Wow I wish the AI would attack me like that. They always seem really passive, even with agro opponenets

Build a couple hidden nations units and move them close to the border...
I always wonder how the hell the Ai manages to get 20+ units out of nowhere to attack a lone wandering HN unit within my OWN borders
