I've been playing for a few weeks now and I did something to my setup/prefs that has me frustrated. The governors keep building new units/wonders/improvements without the Domestic Advisor menu coming up and asking me what I want to build next. It has become a real pain to track down what was just built and change dozens of bonehead decisions by the govs. They seem to love ICBMs and SAM Batteries when I want Armor. I've checked the box in the prefs to ask upon completion of each project but it doesn't seem to work. What is odd is I can load an old saved game that works the way I want but any new game doesn't. I checked and the preferences are the same for both games. I figure I did something that made the old saved game work how I prefer but I can't duplicate it. Thanks for any insight.

Turn of the governors.
You have turned them on so you should know how to turn them off :D
I believe its with a butten next to the rushbuild button.

Is that next to the any key? Seriously, any idea how to get back to where I was?

Go to "good game", check preferences, is Capital default for new city checked?

If so, go to capital and write down governor preferences, BOTH tabs.

If not, go to city with "good build" and write down governor preferences.

Now go to "bad game". Check preferences to confirm that capital is default.
Change preferences of capital to match your notes from "good game".

Thanks guys. You pointed me in the right direction and I figured it out.

That format idea was brilliant, btw.

bleh i do not agree.

I just think people who fortify their pc and use hours to fix things are idiots.

I have an image of my HD,
all non programm data stored on D:
My documents, favorites and desktop linked to D:

I do not use firewalls or virusscanners. I want as few app's running as possible. Everything costs speed. Also do firewalls often interfere with multiplayer games (in sc, people could not join games when the creater had a firewall)

All those protections do not work that well either. Many people who try to fortify their PC often have hours of work to fix things. (or they come to me to let me fix it)

If i have the slightest idea there could be anything wrong with my PC, i recover my Image, go eat or take a shower, and when i'm back my PC is all fresh and clean again.

On top of that, i prefer having an Image anyway since windows alone is virus enough for my PC. Windows PC's run slower as you use them for a while.

You don't need a lot of knowledge for it, but it simply is the easiest and fastest way also if you do have the knowledge to fix things.

Why buy one hard drive when you can buy two?

[.offtopic]yes it's the fastest and easiest way of fixing stuff.
when i do that i have the same feeling as playing civ on emperor and than going for the chieftian. It's not fun :mischief:

I dont use AV either or use firewall. I use Mozzila firefox instead of IE and pick up litle or no viruses.viruses are not dangerus they are just annoying. And i like to remove my viruses by myself because every time i do this i learn something.

I dont take showers i play CIV# :suicide: [/offtopic]

@SnakeBit

dont use governors and dont automate workers

[On Topic] Though the original poster already solved the problem, the answer is...

CTRL-P and turn on Ask for new Build Orders (or something like that)
