In my vanilla Civ IV-playing days, I would often make a concerted effort to aquire flight tech before anyone else. I enjoyed the stand-off attack that only fighters and bombers could provide.

As I familiarized myself with the ffh mod--which is infinitely more fun to play than the original--I was instantly attracted to magic because it gave me the stand-off attack ability that I enjoy so much.

I was explaining my obsession with magic to a fellow player today when the idea struck me that it might be fun to include a very limited stand-off attack in ffh. Maybe certain super catapults could launch ranged missiles, and/or giant eagles could drop missiles like bombers (giant eagles could even enable a paratroop ability, but I'm getting breathless and giddy now).

Anyway, there are probably a million reasons why these ideas would be undesirable or prohibitively difficult to impliment within the ffh universe, but I couldn't resist sharing my thoughts. If nothing else, this might be fun to talk about, and I'm curious what other player think of these crazy ideas. :mischief: :crazyeye:

I enjoy using casters who provide similar ranged attacks. Whether they are flinging meteors or fireballs at you or even an assortment of summoned creatures, it is fun to attack from a distance.

The problem I find is those sneaky units with the Marksman promotion that can pick the weakest unit out of a stack - and that often is your caster. Yes, you can throw in some workers or disciples to prevent this, but on a long march or seige you can run out of them and your casters who take time to get where they are become dead meat.

I do like your idea of having flying units that can fly over a city/unit drop a surprise and return to base. It seems like a fantasy mod like this one would have some such units. Then, of course, you would need to build interceptors, flak or other city defensive structures like in vanilla civ. ;)

In the AoI interview, Kael mentions something about archers shooting into surrounding squares, so this may be coming down the line in FfH2

Id like lesser dragons, wyverns, harpies or something similar that could bomb cities and units with fire or rocks. That would work in the ffh setting!

Well that is the scenario, which is focusing more on the units.

That remark was in the context, I believe, of comparing Fall from Heaven, in general, to Vanilla civ epic.
If you guys see things you like in the scenario, it would be fair to ask for their inclusion into Fall from Heaven 2 main mod, though no promises. :)
