Noobie Q about Modding DLC Scenario

Ok I have switched over to using your tutorial mod whoward because you are right it is very good thanks :-)

I am having trouble with my .dds background pic though, I have set it all up like the tutorial says, but it doesn't appear any where.

Not on the options screen (where you choose your civ and read the briefing text) and not when the game is loading (there I get the civilisation pic and nation voiceover).

So I am just a bit confused about that part, 1. why it doesn't seem to work, 2. where is it actually supposed to appear? :-)

again thanks for patience and assistance.

2. where is it actually supposed to appear?

Screen grab bottom of page 31, it's the background image behind the right hand box

ok this time around I got an error message saying unable to load textures (I think it was) in the background.dds file. Before I just got a standard civ 5 background this time I got an all red background.

I had converted a .jpg. to .dds, could it be something with the size of the pic or setting of the conversion to .dds perhaps?

could be the size (height/width), try to use the same as the vanilla files, I had this problem in my WWII mod with screens that had "lost" 1 pixel in height on re-scaling...

cool thanks for that. Any idea what the right size is or where to find the info. I have a dds viewer but i didn't see anything about the scaling of it? I shall do some investigating.

EDIT: scratch that the dds viewer did have a size reference :) Yay it works :-) Now I just need to find those pesky DoM pics!!

Sweet thanks!

I think my brain must have selective blindness when it comes to reading Kael's guide...I have read it so many times and must just miss the one bit i want every time hehe!

Of course the other reason might be my head is just a big mushy pile of squish.

EDIT: awesome that got it, I did 1000, like a numpty I never even thought of 1028!!

Ok time for another dumb question.

DoM Text....

Now from my reading I understand that I cannot add my own sound... grrr! I add my voice to the cries of outrage!!! OUTRAGE!!! (If this has changed please tell me :-D)

Ahem....ok back to it.

Now I have tried using the update method, to just replace the DoM text of my chosen civs..without success. So I come to one of two conclusions...1. DoM text cannot be 'updated' or 2. I am just a repeated screw up!! Both are equally possible!!

here is the code I used. (Among many other tries) Without success
Code:

</GameData>

there is also a GameData at the beginning I just haven't shown it..

Now I saw in Kael's adding a new civ that he managed to add it in when he did a whole new civ. I have just 'Update Modified' the existing ones, I have managed to successsfully change both the name of the civ, leader and cities...but the DoM text continues to allude my success...After MANY failed attempts I throw myself at your feet and ask for mercy!

Huh, I can't figure out why that wouldn't work (but I'm noobie-seeking missile bait myself). Did you remember to add that XML file to project > properties > actions?

I did this the other day by just adding a new tag. You can copy/paste my method if you want:

Code:
	<Civilizations>
	<Update>
		<Where Type="CIVILIZATION_ENGLAND"/>
		<Set DawnOfManQuote="TXT_KEY_NEWDAWNOFMAN_ENGLAND"/>
	</Update>
	</Civilizations>

	<Language_en_US>
	<Row Tag="TXT_KEY_NEWDAWNOFMAN_ENGLAND">
		<Text>
			Text goes here!
		</Text>
	</Row>
	</Language_en_US>

Now I have tried using the update method, to just replace the DoM text of my chosen civs..without success.

One of your log files (probably xml.log, possible database.log) will have the answer.

You have a double quote (") in the text in the Text attribute of the Set tag, which is invalid and will be causing your XML to fail to parse and hence the entire file is being ignored

Code:
<Set Text="blah blah a "promotion=""" (those double quotes are the error - check your log files!!!)" />

aaah cool thanks. Yeah I checked through the xml log file but it had no obvious errors in it, nothing like this file is not working because..
mostly just a few phrases and numbers..
