I'm home, where are you?
Wondering what people think about the model... I really have all the animations done I'm just looking for opinions before I spend the time rendering it. Simple changes like color and maybe shield or weapons will be considered... I won't consider large changes that'll ruin all my work on the animations :)

Hmm.. not at all sure about the blue on the shield dude, i'd say it is gonna clash quite badly with many of the civ colours including the red as shown. Im presuming the red is the civ-specific yes?

Model is beautiful as always btw. ;)

Kentonio

Yeah the red is civ-specific... maybe I'll try a white field...

I agree with Kentonio...I think I white shield might be a little better.

But it looks awesome!

yay!

Just a few things, could you make the horse a bit taller? Will the horse have a bridle and stirrups? As youcan see from this famous tapestry the Normans used stirrups.

And could you make the spear thicker so that it shows up better in Civ3 size? Other than that it looks great! :D

Thicker Spear I can do... I know they used Bridles and Stirrups and I had them at first but when I tested a small view they didn't show up so I left them out to save on render time... Actually in the death animation the riders foot gets caught in the stirrup... (which isn't actually there but it still looks good)
As for making the horse taller... Don't know if I can swing that without modifying about 100 frames. I'll look into it, I think it might fix the fat horse syndrome, althouth this is largely due to the viewing angle (looking down on it and you see more of the body bulk and less of the leg) Plus the fact that it is a warhorse model which is bulkier than the traditional Arabian style.

:(
I don't like the shield so much (both color and shape). If you could use the typical lingshield like the one on the Bayeux Tapestry that would be perfect and really show its individuality in the game. Now up to you and your work. And if you think I criticize too much just shoot me !

:) Otherwise I love the helmet, chainmail and the horse. Yoda, for real knight such as this one, you use "destriers" (I don't know the word in English) or heavy horse to carry the weight and give a real inerty in the shock with the lance.

I agree, you should use this typical norman shield

I'd have to agree with LouLong on this one. The shield as on the tapestry would be perfect (the V shaped one). Because it is not only tipical for the normans, but for almost all early European knights. (incl. England, France, Spain, Italy, Germany a.o.)

(although for my not so realistic mod this shield would do just fine ;) but what is one mod he?)

Apart from that the model is excellent!:goodjob:

btw, destrier is a word they use in English as well... I think

Well, if you could change the shield as suggested by the others without much trouble it would be fine.

With the current shield he looksgreat, but more like later heavy armoured cavalry (12/13 century) ;)

Oh, you guys are nitpickers. The shape of the shield is fine. The color has grown on me too.

See what happens when you ask popular opinion?;)

I love it!!!

Great job!

(I just noticed I am not far away from the big 5000 post mark!)

I would also humbly suggest making the shield grey, so it is neutral...and won't cause foibles with civ colours.

Kinboat, it looks a beaut!
I agree about the kite shield, but know nothing about how hard it is to change. The colour of the shield doesn't really matter, both blue and white would probably look good.
It shouldn't be a destrier, they where bred later to carry the knight, this guy is pre-knight. It will probably look good if you keep the horse as it is, it's no big problem.

Don't make the horse any taller. As you can see in the Bayeux Tapestry the horses from the early middle ages were still quit small compared to modern animals. Horses in ancient and medieval eras were closer in size to what we would call Ponies today.

Another great unit Kinboat.
Your on a roll mate!

My only real problem, as stated above, is the shield colour.
A bridil would be nice to give the horse more detail, but you already have said it did'nt show up when scaled down.
Is there some way past that, maybe change the colour of the bridil (?). It would make a big difference.
If not, its still looks good.
