Any tidbits to share that aren't in the manual or available via popups in game?

I read the manual and I've looked over the hotkey reference, and of course I read the popups in the game, but there are a few things I think I've discovered that weren't in the manual (or I mssed them).

1. If you shift+click a stack of units you get a popup list ala Civ3, where you can select all, fortify all, or scroll thru the units to select one (which can be easier than the iconic list you normally deal with if you want one specific unit, especially if you have a monster stack).

2. If you click on a city's name label on the main map you can alter its production without actually entering the city (this is sorta in the manual in regards to alt/ctrl+clicking to set several cities production to the same thing at once but it's not very clear). I once accidentally ctrl+clicked while meaning to change one city's production and caused every city on a continent to produce workboats. It was very confusing til I figured out what I'd done. <sigh>

3. If you hold down alt while you have a unit selected and hover over an adjacent enemy you can see your modified strengths compared. This can also be done with the 'g' hotkey or holding down the right button as if you were going to move to that enemy and attack it.

Some things that almost seem like bugs that I've found I could do.

1. You can load units on a transport, move the transport, and unload them all on the same turn (dunno if this is with modern units only but I definitely did it with modern units and dunno if it only works when moving between cities - I seem to recall doing this in a variety of ways in my last game).

2. If you rebase a fighter/jet you can select it and put it into intercept mode the same turn you move it - and it will intercept enemies immediately during the AI turn. (dunno if it works with fighters, I had jets when I tried it and it worked)

Some things I'd like to know how to do that I thought you could do:

1. The hotkey reference in the manual says you can assign a hotkey to a build queue with ctrl+# in the city screen - but it doesn't seem to work for me or I'm not doing it correctly.

2. I haven't been able to figure out how to set a rally point for a city (or any type of rally point) and I don't recall anything about it in the manual or hotkey reference.

(there are so many hotkeys and hotkey combos in Civ IV that flailing around on the keyboard can be extremely dangerous!)

3. Any way to get rid of a unit grouping? For ex - you have stack of units and you group some of them via shift+clicking their icons - is there any way to ditch that grouping since often times they'll stick together long afterwards.

Select the group, there is a button in the unit action box that allows you to ungroup.

The manual does in fact say that transports can do this. Don't have the page on hand, but I know I read it in there.

Oh, and thanks for the first couple of tips. Nice.

I found that there are plenty of good tips not found in the manual in the Civilopedia\Hints section. I believe these are the same hints you get during the game loading screen.

You can also do this by using the options menu to assign it to a right click, as was done in CivIII.
