not-so-original copy

I can proudly say that I own an original licensed and bought copy of the following Civ products : Civilization 1 ( good old days, I was too young to udnerstand a single thing, but I loved the game! ) Civilization 2 ( still holds, and will for many years to come ), Civilization 2 Scenarios ( gave me something new to try )... The one thing I own which is unlicensed is Civ2 Gold, which I would happily have paid for if I could find it somewhere. But I couldn't, so I took up a friends offer instead... Not something I'm proud of, but I was desperate...

Testicles....

Civ1, 2 and FW all pirate.. then legit copy of Civ2 last year from Cash Converters...

Later worms...

I hate to say it but my Civ I is "not so licenced" (And that lost me a point on that purity test)

My Civ II MGE was purchased fair and square at a computer store. Acctually my wife bought if for me as an aniversary gift. Little did she know.

Now she regrets buying it, but too late for her.

I bought a copy of Civ II and Fantastic Worlds. I just waited until they dropped to $30CAN (I think FW was $10). I think I was still playing the copy of CIV I that I . . uh . . found . . for about two years after CIV II came out. I don't think I want to wait that long for CIV III, but I think I will wait to hear what others say about it before I rush out and buy it. I have to wait at least until Christmas holidays to play it or else I risk lossing a year of university.

I have three legit copies of civ2 MGE installed on my home LAN (where I totally crush my children's aspirations of supplanting me), and a spare copy for when a disk tanks. I have a legit copy of civ2 2.42 at my office, used for OCC games. I have 1 legit SMAX, 1 legit SMAC, and a space SMAC.

How can you get games of the internet???
Can you download them???
WHERE?!?!?!

I have a legit copy of Civ2 Classic i got for Christmas 5 years ago...that introduced me to Civ. I also have a second-hand copy of Colonization-bought at Half-Price books-and a game whose label reads 'Alpha Cintauri.'

I have two copies of MGE since my parents are divorced. One of them is not licensed, while the other I found at Wal-Mart(Best Store in The World

) priced at $9.99. I of course had to buy it, but then i only got charged $8.49 i think it was. What a bargain for the best game ever.

I have a kosher copy of Civ II Classic. Since I have to deal with databases and proprietary software at work, I'm very conscious about legalities of this stuff. Hey, Sid works hard, right? Deserves some $$$ compensation?

4 yrs ago I bought civnet. Civlization 1 for networks to play against my roommate, but we could never get it to work. I then bought Civ II when that came out thinking "maybe they got that network thing fixed."

I then found out that there was no 'net support. Next I bought MGE when that first hit the shelves. I was too impatient to get it off a friend.

Beside the point, I'm in the same boat as blue monday on Blizzard.

The fact of the matter is that where we live to have a licenced copy is strange.
But not in the states.

Yeah, I'll understand, from here finland thousands of people go to Baltic just to buy
beer or games (which are 90% cheaper there)
and both are 'quite' unlegal. Myself I have
licensed copy of Civ 2 which is only game I
have legally bought. Civ 1 is piracy, thought.

PS: Hey you guys in the US, you're games are really cheap.

I have a legit copy of civ2gold on both my computers (one's really old). And a not so legit copy of the original civ2 on both as well

I only have it because sometimes you feel like playing a music CD while playing civ2 (you have to have the civ2gold CD in to play it

Ok, I understand games, but beer? What is wrong with Lithuanian beer? It is perfectly legal and better than your western expensive stuff!

Totally, 120% offtopic but...

LITHUANIAN BEER RULES.

And as for ontopic, i'm glad that such a discussion was made and now i don't feel that much guilty for having a illegal copy.

And moxliukas should feel bad - coz i made him a copy of a copy an illegal copy. Wow.

I do feel bad that I have a totally illegal (how much more illegal can you get: my copy is a copy written in a CD-R, that was copied from another CD-R, that Ecco had, that was copied from a pirate CD manufactured somewhere in Bulgaria that was probably stolen from the makers of CivII). Well, I haven't seen an original copy in Lithuania (yet), though I did want to buy one while I was in UK (however, I didn't). It's not easy getting a licenced copy in Lithuania these days

I have licensed copies of Civ1 and Civ2 Gold. But I have a pirated copy of Empire (then bought Empire Deluxe, which is not as good). Almost all my game software is bought and paid for, but all I ever play is Civ2 and MOO.

perhaps I'm wrong but, I think I deserve my pirated copy of civ2 MGE, and I'll tell you why... (if your interested in listening)

I have a real copy of civvilization (DOS) which I got for $5 from a friend.

Then I have a copy (now long lost) of Civnet which I bought for $30 and then realised I could never get to work to play MP games... (though having sounds was cool, especially the "NUKE" sound, which I might add I have used to replace civ2's "NUKE" sound with.)

THEN I saw Civ2 for $49.95 and was like AWE YEAH! $240 worth of puddin! Awe-yeah! got it home & it was GREAT... but... no MP... none... I looked through the text files, and low and behold I see the menues for internet and hot-seat games!!!! They were plannign to make civ2 as civ2 MGE to BEGIN WITH!!!

::sigh:: so I got a fre program from the internet that allowed you to play hot-seat games with your friends, it wasn't great, but it was the best I coudl do.

THEN I bought Civ2 Senarios for 29.95 (nope.. no MP... but some interestign scenarios...)

THEN I bought Civ2 Fantastic Worlds for $29.95 (at this point I might add Civ2 MGE had already come out, and I knew they were almost the extact same game so I figgured, since civ2 gold is ou and has fantastic worlds, I can upgrade with this disk & by checkign on the net) but NOPE!

ALSO: My friend broke my original civ2 CD which I had lent him, it wasn't a huge problem since I already had scenarios, and was getting Fantastic worlds, so I coud play... but I couldn't install.

This is where my piracy begins I suppose. seeing as my copyu was broken I had to install a pirate version of civ2 once or twice (just borrowed the CD from a friend) and then both of my other civ2 CD's afterwards so I could play when I formatted.

I bought BOTH AC & Alien Crossfire (which sucked) but I got a deal at $59.95 total.

so, now my friend who broke my Civ2 CD, a very very valuable poosession of mine, comes around, he's bought civ2 MGE... btu he doens't liek playing on the internet (I am ****ign livid!!!) he's never even played on-line and never intends to, just wants to play classic old civ2 2.42 >:-O!!!!

he ALSO says he foudn my old cracked CD again (he showed me it cracked 3 years earlier, but then promptly lost it) he gives me back that CD and I'm pissed, so I took his civ2 MGE CD and coppied it, and it's been woth it, no messing with 3 CD's and now I can play over the internet, but I think by the total amount of software I got gyped into buying (scenarios fantastic words AC) in search of a civ2 (or civ2 like -- in the case of AC--) gaming experiance in multiplayer, I am justified in not paying the $30 to get my own copy. and I also got a little somethign back from someone who defiled my original copy and didn't put their copy of MGE to good use. in a way, he bought me MGE and I bought him 2.42 if you think about it. but whatever. Sid Deserves my money for such a great game, abd will get it for civ III for sure (it's MP right ???) but I think I already paid enough to support civ2.

please say you agree with mne... or I'll cut your head off and piss down your neck! :-P
