November Folly

I am still getting "unable to negotiate with host's firewall" whenever I try to connect with the hub connected to my router. It is a real hassle to disconnect the hub and connect my computer directly to the modem every time I want to take a turn, because it tends to cause issues with the connection for 30 minutes or so afterwards. (it'll be 16 more days of this until I'm back at college)

Do you think you could change the settings on your firewall at all? Or otherwise we could set up something on hamachi? Hamachi is easy to do...

I tried Hamachi initially, but I had issues connecting myself....I could not connect from home. I suspect it has something to do with my firewall, but not sure what, and it appears (to me) that it is set up correctly. I don't know much about firewalls, so I am not able to really trouble shoot it :(.

Next time GameSpy crashes (and I am sure it will, this must be a fluke lasting this long :)), I may play with Hamachi again to see if I can get it running.

I think my DSL modem has a hard firewall, as does my wireless router, and I have norton on my machine, so I think the three layers are causing the problem....

The Uploader for CivStats has apparently gone down, but the game is still running. I think thre is about 2.5 hours left in this turn and only Levree to move.

Okay, about 1 hr 5 min. from this edit until the end of turn.

restart/reconnect it?

Congrats on liberalism whoever got it. I got a stack of horse archers in present instead... They managed to take out a couple workers and a catapult on the first turn but at least i don't think they'll be able to take out any cities... Ah well you make what you get out of this game yourself.

Lol....I assume that was from a random event :)....that would be funny, if that was your choice...'congratulatoins, you have discovered liberalism. choose a technology or call a plague down on your opponent...'.

Yeah it was Attila the hun that for some reason chose to attack the mighty egyptians(5 titles away from a huge stack of elephants...) rather than the more flavour full chinese. Rather silly they can spawn where there is no fog of war too..(looks like it was leverge that won the race).

Atilla against the elephants(yes the remaining horsearchers all beelined straight for my stack of elephants...). Hopefully the surviving elephants should be able to take out phabuk shortly...

to be honest, my interest in this game is starting to wane... the main reason why is tech trading. Tech trading makes alliances very powerful, almost to the extent that all that is important is politics, and how much land/cities you own. I do have a small tech lead, although it was at the cost of incredibly focusing on it, and it won't last long(should've gone completely straight for more advanced military techs, although wasn't sure if i was going to fight)...

I'll keep playing for now and until there is a replacement, see how the war plays out, I'm pretty sure I can defend myself at least. But if anyone is reading this thread, I'll probably give my spot up in the near future, if you have a desire to join.

You knew when you started the game... If you don't want to play with tech trading you should not do so.. Getting alliances is a huge part of the game yes. A tech lead without any alliance is incredibly hard to keep obviously... Learn to play then do so. The game is not just about moving units etc. If you don't talk to other people there is no way to win with tech trading on...

I didn't want to kill them. They made me do it! I promise!

It looks like the order is me, then Burl, then Slaze. I'm not sure though, if you guys keeping the same order (burl then slaze every turn) is part of the rules?
