I've played part of a game with the new patch, Emperor level on a large sized pangea map with max civs. And of course the question that I am having is: how aggressive is the AI trading compared to 1.17?

As far as I got, it seems to be a bit better, I tried to keep tabs on how quickly a tech got traded around and it seems like the AI won't immediately pimp out the sum of its knowledge to any and all AI civs that it knows for pocket change, at the very least it is waiting a few turns before doing this, as I was able to trade the same tech to different AI civs that I was sure had contact with each other on seperate turns, something that wouldn't have happened during the last patch.

I stopped after the Ancient era ended, which was about 50 AD, which isn't all that bad considering some of these Emperor games will have you almost in the Industrial era by then. Then again, it was a large map so there was a research penalty figured in there, too. I'd still prefer having games paced so the Medieval era starts in the 300 to 500 AD range, the Industrial in the 1400-1600 range and the Modern era starting no earlier than about 1800. The urgent rushing pace doesn't let you enjoy any of your units before they're obsolete and you can't build a civic improvement without accrueing three more that you need to build in addition to all the units. Which is why I usually play Monarch instead of Emperor but that's neither here nor there.
