I've been playing for about two months now and been on this board about the same time, at first I saw here how many complaints about the game people had and could not figure out why because I thought it was a GREAT game, well it's still a great game but experience with the game now has shown me a new light, for instance

1. What's the deal with this culture flipping, I mean once Peria had one city left and he culture flipped one of my cities on a continent I owned, and he was the equililent distance away from me like New York is to Siberia!!

2. When I conquer a city why do I inherit all the complaints from the people that the previous civ did? Why do I conquer a city and the people complain "hell no, we won't go" I didn't draft them, the previous civ did!! I mean I should be looked upon as a liberator if they were all mistreated by the previous civ, even Nazi Germany was looked upon as a liberator in Russia early in the war.

3. Broken treaties??? They won't deal with me cuz they said they said I broke a treaty before??? Sure we did have a treaty but it was THEM that started the war not me.

4. Also the corruption in this game is way out of hand, 95% corruption??? PLEASE FIRAXIS!!!... Unless I switch to communism what's the sense in even invading anyone?? With all that corruption and *****ing they do about things that weren't my fault I might as well stay home and lob ICBM's on them.

5. And lastly, COMBAT.. WIth all the hours Firaxis put into this game they could have made AI's combat a little smarter, one - the AI doesn't know how to use Artillery properly, other than having Artillery sitting in a city defending it, or the occassional bombardment of a road or railroad it doens't know anything about using it. And what's the deal with spearmen taking out tanks?????? I couldn't believe it when that happened. Also once AI brought a battleship out to bombard me and then it sailed back into the city and I had a stack of 15 tanks sitting next to it ready to take the city next turn, he SHOULD have just high-tailed it back to Podunk Egypt.

Yep they are problems (except for culture flippin which I think is okay)
2 of them can be daelt with easily - corruption can be taken down in the editor and modern units can be given extra hitpoints (both of which ive done) which means it is practically impossible for a speraman to beat a tank

However it's still a fantastic game

Start the editor (Civ3edit), load civ3mod.bic, save it right away as civ3modoriginal.bic (so you can go back anytime).

Go to the edit button at the top right of the screen. You get a big screen with lotsa tabs. choose any, click help. you get the same screen with a help function, use this to look around.

Say you want to lower corruption:

choose 'difficulty levels', then choose the level you weant to adjust from the drop-down menu, then set the corruption slider to where you want it. i use 75%, and thats quite OK.

Close the window, save the file as Civ3mod.bic. From now on, whenever you start a new game, you'll have the corruption you chose.

sabo10 to change hitpoints go to the units tab in the editor - then you can edit the amount of hitpoints (the number you enter in the hitpoint box is added too the normal number) each unit starts with -
in my mod modern units have +5 hitpoints - to give them a total of 8 when regular. Ive also upped the rof strength of artillery and bobmers to go with it - if you'd like it ill post my bic file ehre and you can download it

You pregnant dogger! you insulted Egypt! FEEL MY FURY!!!

Killer, I wonder how the corruption slider works: Say you put 75%: Do you still get 95% corrupted cities? if you do, is there a noticiable difference between the original setting and the one you use, so you can have quite a lot more productive cities?

Why on Earth was an Egyptian refree in a mundial Quarter-Final   ???!! That was highway robbery, almost as much as AI cheating

Evincar: it takes the normal amount, then multiplies with the number you chose. So, yes, you still get 95% corruption, but 95% * 75 % is roughly 26 times 3 is around 78%. That means, as soon as the city produces more than 7 shields it will keep two. If you have a size 4 city that will with mines usually give you 7 to 9 shield, so you're at double prod compared to the normal game!

The Refree: yep he sucked big time! Still I feel the Spanish team wouldn't have deserved to be in the semifinale. Germany much less, though  These suckers stumble on - I can't believe it!

CF, curruption% and spearman winning from a tank are fine. it actually adds depth into the game and the gameplay. Realism? now how realistically does "stratego" mimic a battle? ...

CTP doesn't have all those "flaw's" and i dislike that game just becouse of that.

As for the AI being stopid, i agree. It has to much "A" and to litle "I"! Also the diffeculty should rely more on AI and less on what most ppl call "cheating".
The AI blaming you for war's you didn't start, yes, i feel this is a bug actually.
I agree that being "liberated" should have some inpact, but of course not when your enemy is democratic. ;-)

There are ways to deal with CF, if you can't manage it, then go back to chieftian!

Everyone of your points is 100% valid.

The more people play this game the more they see how lousy the AI is and how it cheats. :(

Unfortunatly, I see that you are correct once again. ;-) After a single game on warlord I had picked up the skills to completely master any AI opponent on chieftan, it was sad the first time I went back. Then I played on Warlord exclusively, and then regent... Once you pop, you cant stop so to speak.

Funny thing is when I bought this game 2 months ago I couldn't even beat it on Cheiftan level, I just got done with one game and I clobbered the AI in Monarch. Now it's on to the higher levels and I suppose realize what everyone was talking about when they say the AI cheats... HAR
