Just wanted to say hullo to all you forum users (obviously im a noob to these boards)...

Okay, now heres the perennial noob statement:

I just started playing CIV about a month ago. So now im adding new units, techs, and improvements, everything is just dandy. Until I ran into a brickwall.

Now for the question:

My brickwall is non-civ colored custom units. I Dl'ed some units and they dont have the civs color incorporated into them, they merely had the "creators" designated colors.

How do I modify the unit so it has Civ colors?

Tut's, Guides, Software, Links... anything would be helpful.

Ok, im wandering closer to what feels like an answer.

I am using FLICster to open and view the files, and If I could just edit some values on the Palette and then re-constitute them back into the unit I would be a happy camper.

Any clues as to how to customize the FLC palettes with FLICster?

Most of the time it's not possible. Of course, any unit can be given civ colors but often those colors will be all over the unit as small dots and patches.

Basically, you need to learn Flicster (get it from utilities forum), export a storyboard out of a unit .flc and edit its palette. Paint Shop Pro has civ colors at the top of the palette, Photoshop at the bottom. You can look at units with civ colors for examples. Basically, you need to replace certain colors appearing in the unit with those civ colors. It's tedious and unless the unit has a clearly defined area (shield, shirt, trousers...) with unique colors (meaning that the colors don't appear anywhere else in the unit), results are often pretty bad.

After editing the palette and giving the unit civ colors, open the .fxm file with Flicster and export a .flc out of it.

My guess is that this is a bit more work than you expected, but good luck tackling the challenge if you decide to do so. :)

Playing with FLICster in the last 10 minutes has pretty much prepared me to expect that this process will be long and tedious.

But since my custom .biq is a labour of love I will stick with it through thick and thin, it may take me a few months... but hey, when you absolutely positively need that coat to be a different color for every nation! ;)

Thanks Drift, thats exactly the info I needed.

And thanks Mongoloid Cow for the warm welcome.

Yeah, I was just testing this out, and the colors are very poorly defined.

So, looks like im gonna have to go make my own units then.... I was hoping I didnt have to do that :)

Did you look at the Unit Library (And the completed units section in general?)

You'll find plenty of units made that might be of use (most have civ-specific colors).

Ok, I have searched the Unit Library and Unit Directory top to bottom, and have not found what I want... or even anything I can adjust to make it what I want.

I am looking for:

1. Mid 17th century - Early 18th century Coastal Defense Gun Battery; This would be a cannon with an impressive caliber, for use as a standalone (or infantry defended) immobile unit.

2. Early 18th century, 64 gun, 2 deck, Ship of the Line, think HMS Agamemnon. I know somebody already made a great 104 Gun 3 deck S.o.t.L (Im using it, but I need more variety).

3. Mid 17th century, 40 gun, 2 deck Heavy Frigate. (English Artois Class, think HMS Diana).

4. 18th century English Brigantine, this ship is fast and only slightly more well armed than a Priavteer (sloop) or Corvette. The Brigantine is a 18 gun vessel. This kind of ship is the same as Jacke Aubrey's "1795" HMS Sophie, from the book "Master and Commander"... I have yet to see the movie... I should. :)

Thanks, if anyone has anything remotely similar to what i describe, please post a link. If anyone wants to take on some of these projects I would greatly appreciate it.

Your right, I have stated that I have found a S.o.t.L.

The one in the Napoleonic campaign looks like a french bath tub... its not as proud or ominous as the HMS Victory.

I found a great S.o.t.L on this website, and it is really a great ship... I love it, but I need more ships. Like a 3rd rate S.o.t.L... you know, 64 guns and 2 decks, not 104 guns and 3 decks.

Why I still need more S.o.t.L:

The one in the Napoleonic campaign is small, it looks like a bath tub, and has that horrible french emblem on it.

The one on this site is awesome, it makes a very good first rate S.o.t.L. Its a very convincing HMS Victory.

I need more variety than a first rate 104 Gun S.o.t.L and a first rate 34 gun Frigate.

What I have

First rate S.o.t.L : 104 Gun, 3 deck (found it on this site)
First rate Frigate : 30 Gun (came with the game)
Corvette : 14 gun (found it on this site)
Sloop : 14 gun (came with the game; Privateer)

What I need

Third rate S.o.t.L : 64 Gun, 2 deck
Heavy Frigate: 40 Gun
Brigantine : 20 gun

I dont need these ships to have these exact gun numbers, I just want something that looks like it would pack the punch of its real world counterpart.
