Nuclear Plants ...

I like the nuclear plants because they spare me from having to built lots and lots of the little plants. Sucks that only a few civs (Russia, etc) can use them, though.

 Wait a tick...wrong game.

Nuclear plants are my preferred option if I don't get Hoover Dam. I think this stems more from my pro-nuclear stance in IRL than anything else. By the time that tech rolls around, I've acquired all the luxury resources I need to keep people happy.
Comrade General!

Production-obsessed as I am, I always prefer nuke plants when I can get them (and I play enough huge maps and modern scenarios that it's still important). I've only had them meltdown once, and it was 4 on one turn. Lost me a war.

Why not build them? Not everywhere but most civs have a city or two that need to produce those few extra shields...

I'm the same if the game gets that far. I like the extra production. However, you have to be sure that the city won't go into rioting at some point in the future. If that's reasonably possible to happen I wouldn't build it. I believe the meltdown could cost you a war.

Just to state the obvious, this is for Civ3. Don't build them in Civ4.

It might be a bit noobish but I also build them at the point in the game, including the other good stuff; a good producing city can get a icbm built every 4 turns. If a game gets that far...
