Is it worth the risk? The in game civlopedia says that it increases production while decreasing pollution from industry by 25%. But there is a chance of meltdown. I have never built a nuclear power plant yet, so I have a few questions.

1.) What are the effects of a meltdown?

2.) What are the chances of having a meltdown?

3.) Can a certain technology or city improvement to decrease the chances of a meltdown?

4.) Is it worth the risk?

I believe meltdown only happens when city goes into disorder and stays there a while, so if you have a reliable connection to most of the luxury resourses, nuclear power is quite safe.

I have yet to see nuclear power plants help with pollution. All my cities that I've added them to already had mass transit and recycling centers and were only showing 2 or 3 pollution triangles before the plant, and still had the same number after.

I didn't realize the civilopedia specifically said 25% reduction, so I guess that's why. At some point I'll try to build one in a city before a recycling plant and see what happens.

I had MANY nuke plants in my previous game. They are definitely good. They create additional shields without creating more pollution (but do NOT reduce pollution as the civilopedia says (it says by 50%, the actual effect is 0%)), and were very safe in my experience. Just keep your citizens happy.

Sounds like it is good to build nuclear plant. I'm nearly into the civilization advance and will be able to build one in a couple of turns.
