nuke over use

I'm I going to run out of time, King level 2040 is the end of time isn't it.

I usually don't use nuclear weapons, but this time I seemed to have overwhelming opposition.
Every invasion attempt has push me off their island and marauding battle ships have emptied some of my coastal cities. So I started using nukes. I've dropped 30 nukes on them already, but they seem to overwhelm my land forces.

They were able to retake cities and get advances from me. So now I'm going to build up a pile of nukes, get some land forces in position to rush in the there cities.

The one thing I saw in this game and I'm sorry I didn't get a screen shot of it was of one of their settlers doing pollution work, never saw that before.

I would have thought that global warming would have kicked in by now given the amount of pollution.

The map looks like a battlefield! lol.

You shouldn't become a dirty nuker. Organize your armies and see where the enemy's weak spots are. Surround their cities with your men and starve them.

I wish I could have that much difficulty fighting an enemy in Civ1. I've gotten too good at it i'm afraid.

Combined arms is very valuable. Tanks, Bombers, Carriers, Artillery and Battleships. The Bombers die too fast for what they cost, but they are great for getting that initial foothold when attacking an island. Just set down your armor and artillery beside a town (Artillery on the same square as the armor for it's safety. Then throw Bombers on the town AND around it to clear out any opposition that would threaten your Armor/Artillery. Hit it hard with a few Battleships too. Then you'll get a good starting town on that island, probably without losing any Armor/Artillery. From there move your Battleships along with you as you progress and put them in front of the opposition's other port cities so that you can destroy any Navy they try to build or any defensive units they have guarding the town (which is best because they'll have to keep rebuilding them so they can't build a Navy. Then you can move your transports with confidence and keep reinforcing that first town until you can take another. And probably the most valuable thing is, to start the war prepared. Make sure you have 8 Battleships, 8 Bombers, 8 each of Armor and Artillery. You can also use diplomats if you like and have them replace the Artillery.

Then you should be able to kick butt.

The last time it happened I actually gave the tech to them: I did an OCC on warlord level, won by launching the SS and then decided to play on. Went for all the capitals so many civs split up. Then I gave them all the ability to build nukes (trade techs, leave an undefended city nearby) and started a fullblown nuclear war with all of them. It was fun.

Perhaps I should start giving the other civs an advantage, like skipping the first 20 turns without doing anything, perhaps they would be able to give me a hard time by doing that.

Right now i'm trying to win the science race and avoid being destroyed with the fewest number of cities possible (I can easily win with 4 cities and have enough units early to keep the Mongols from wanting to attack. Next will be 3 cities), and actually I find that I can often advance faster with fewer cities, because I don't have smaller cities holding me back because of those towns lacking improvements to keep citizens happy, which means I gotta spend more on keeping people happy. My favorite used to be trying to win the space race as Britain in the SNES version. In the SNES version on Earth, Britain had space for 2 cities. London would grow to around 20, but the other town could only grow to 8 or 10. One game I actually did it! I launched a ship with 10,000 people (no cheating, I never cheat) before the opposition could get theirs off. This was against America on earth who is always at the top of the tech race with 8 cities to build a spaceship with... Does the computer actually build the spaceship parts? Or do they get those free too?

Looks like your not doing so well. You should use the brute force strategy which I ony use as a last resort (rush build howitzers, helicopters, stealth bombers, battleships and transports in all cities and go on an all out offensive, hoping to obliterate the enemy in a few turns before they have a chance to strike back.
