Has this happened to anybody else?

Okay, I've got a population of around 60,000,000, and my spaceship is about to land. The Persians have been reduced to a single city beside the Babylonians, and everybody else is at peace with me. I have two main continents, the mainland and the land that used to be Persia (but isn't any more). The Celts (yours truly) and Persia are democracies, the Mongols are a Theocracy, and everybody else is a republic.

The final turn begins. An Egyptian nuke hits a city close to my capital, and then my spaceship lands. Game ends, I win.

Huh?

I have to ask...have many people come across Republics declaring war with nuclear sneak attacks on the very last turn?

Best regards to all,

Robert "Garwulf" Marks

Actually, it was writing late at night and not being able to think of the word. Yes, I meant "Fundamentalist".

(And, to answer the first question, I did have SDI defences, just not in that city.)

Best regards to all,

Robert Marks

theocracy and fundamentalism is about the same: only I think theocracy really limits it's possibilities to a certain religion.

I think they knew they were going to loose, nuking one of your cities just made them feel better about it. Computer AI:s can really get pissed off sometimes when they loose :)

;)

I think the complaint is that the nuke lowered his population, and put him in conflict - which both lower your score.

Personally, I make sure to use dips and spies to sabotage any civs that are getting too close to me as far as technology goes.

Nukes are one thing...have you ever noticed the AI's obsession in using masses of cruise missiles in a single turn? It's crazy! :p

You've never believe my war campaigns then. I love loading a carrier or two with cruise missles to soften up the defenses of my enemies. My ground units can then usually just waltz right in and take 3 or 4 cities a turn when I get on a good tear.

Forget the loss of citizens and the polution caused and the subsequent score loss as a result, I'd be upset that I didn't get the chance to make them pay for it.

You probably had a bad rep from breaking too many deals or sneak attacks. I am always careful to cancel deals and declare war formally before attacking to preserve my rep so I can negotiate peace treaties that hold and don't get that kind of thing.

The suggestion to use spies was a good one. If you had discovered the nuke being built you could have sabbataged the construction or just made a pre-emptive strike.

Exactly. Make the buggers regret it!

The AI will very frequently abandon millenia of peace, become a fundy, and be very silly. Bad AI. Anymore behaviour like that, and it will be a visit from Mr. Battleship...
