Can you have more than one leader at any given time?

I've been trying to ''save'' leaders for special occasions, but, it seems I can never get another one until I use the one I have up (for an Army or Project Rush Job). Even when I continually war and win with dozens of Elite units, it seems they will never produce another leader if I still have an ''un-used'' leader stored away somewhere in one of my cities.

I've seen a couple of threads on this and the short answer is no.

You can however have several leaders in a turn. To do this, use your leader as soon as he's generated.

Yep, you can only have one leader at a time. So if you often save leaders for wonders, here's a tip (from the Strategy section):

Don't squander your opportunities for generating leaders. You can only have one leader at a time, and don't forget that promotions and leaders are generated with the same mechanism. If you attack with an elite unit while you have a leader, a promotion opportunity is wasted. So if you have a leader, focus your attacks with your regular and veteran units. Save your elite units for worker abduction and pillaging. That way, by the time you use up your leader you'll have plenty of elite units with which to generate the next one. Obviously, if you don't have a leader, use your elite units in every battle you're likely to win, and use your fast regular and vet units for softening slower enemy units.

Geez. I just knew it. I was wondering so why I couldn't have more than one leader at time, thought it was about non-militaristic civilisation. I wasted a lot of elite unit opportunity! :(

one suggestion, use ur leaders to make wonders, dont waste them in armies... make armies at the end (modern times) when all wonders were created, then use the leader to make an army...but when you are in the begenning is better using ur leaders to rush wonders...

small additon: use the first (unless you really need a special wonder / the FP) for an army. Make sure it wins a fight. Then build Heroic Epic. Gives lotsa culture and increases the chance for leader generation. Also it enables you to build Military Academy when you reach Miltary tradition - then you cnn save all leaders for wonders since you can now build armies in the Mil Acad Town.

btw: an outdated offensive army (say: three swordsmen when Knights/cavalry are around) is an excellent tool to cover a stack of bombardment units or offensive units. It can also protect a stack of Cavalry that you use for pillaging by moving it one square from the army, pillage, then move it back under cover.

The AI doesn`t even bombard my 3-Knight armies with Bombers, it justt ignores them and looses town after town to the stacks theyprotects (like 3 Cav, 15 Arty)
