Nvidia mini-map / globe glitch fix?

For anyone out there using nvidia cards, particularly those in the 6xxx series: do you have problems with the mini-map becoming (partially) corrupted/glitched? Do you have the same problem when switching to "globe" view? Has anyone found a method for "fixing" these issues? Before anyone asks, I've updated all the drivers on my machine. I'm also experiencing a very annoying "cursor flicker"... but I appear to be the only one who suffers from it.

Any advice appreciated.

I'm running a BFG 6800 Ultra OC on an AMD 64 4000+ San Diego. Latest drivers.

Game runs beautifully, except for those ugly lines on the mini-map and when moving out into 'Globe' view. It doesn't kill gameplay, but it sure detracts from the enjoyment and the obstructed mini-map is a pain in the rear.

Friend of mine has the same problem, he's running a 6600.

Interesting thing though - I think it might be intermittent.

The first three times I played the game, I had this problem. But I launched it last night, and was please to the issue had disappeared - clear skies!

But, launched it again today, and the problem was back. Temperature monitors all show that the board was running in tip-top condition.

I'd like to say that I'm experiencing a similar problem. Or an identical one in fact. I'm running a 6800 NU with the 81.85 drivers. I'll give the 78.05s a try to tomorrow, just to see if that helps, but I doubt it.

Also, it turns out that alt-tabbing out and back into the game will fix the minimap, and, if you're already zoomed out, fix the globe - albeit only briefly.

Reportedly, going back to 75.xx drivers fixes it. I've decided to live with it until the bugfix, though, be it game or drivers. Too many other things get sped up with the 8x.xx series.

Exact same problem. I can live with it, of course, but I was curious to see if anyone had a "fix" for it. As for the glitch on mini-map/globe... I've been meaning to keep an eye on it to see if I can notice any patterns for when it becomes "corrupted". Unfortunately, the game is so absorbing, I've haven't quite succeeded :mischief:. I have noticed, however, that it will occassionally "fix" itself.... but it doesn't last for too long.

Anyway, thanks for the comments

Is this when the globe view is completely white? If so, then it happens with my Radeon 9600XT as well.

For me the globe view will contain a few tiles represented properly, but the vast majority of it is "streaked" with multi-colored lines. Same with the mini-map. It'll look fine for awhile, then it will become streaked or obscured with a series of light blue horizontal lines.

I've got a GEForce 6800GT, and I had the same problem when I updated to the latest drivers (8x.xx), with the weird lines/distortions in the minimap and globe view. Rolled back drivers and they aren't there anymore.

'course, I still get the sound skipping in the wonder movies and the general slowdown after a few hrs of play (seems to be related to those animated leader heads).

Here it is:

Then switching to desktop with Alt-TAB and then back to Civ:

I attached my DxDiag.txt who any support guy who might be interrested...

Yep - Ans has got the same thing we all do. Also - I don't know if this is just me, but the other day I was playing with FRAPS on, and when the leaderheads were showing there was a dramatic framerate drop. Fair enough, but when they were GONE, the framerate drop was still there. Alt-tabbing out and back (which is actually very quick - I'm impressed with that) brings the framerate back up to normal.

At least you know how to fix it. My problem appears without any logic. For example, I tried starting a game on standard map. Broken globe view. Then I opened the 1000AD-scenario and surprisingly the globe view works again. Started another custom game, globe still works. Next time it didn't.

And I can't get alt+tab to work properly. The game just freezes (or loads for ages) when I try to return to the game.

Craaaazy. I should say, I've rolled back to the 78.05s and the problem is completely gone. Intrigueingly, I didn't have any problems with wonder movies under the 81.85s, but I DO get the ubiquitous stuttering with the 78s... I'm hoping this is actually a game bug so that I can stick with one driver for a while. Oh well.

When I lowered my in game anti-aliasing this problem went away from me, under 81.85s. Movies stutter went away when I lowered graphic details to medium.

Speaking of which. Parthenon's movie was all glitchy few minutes ago, along with the sound. This is strange, because the movie for founding Hinduism played perfectly.

Gah! This game just keeps popping up more problems.

Anything that resets the graphics engine will "fix" it--changing resolution, AA, alt-tabbing, etc. In my experience, the problem always comes back.
