Ok, I understand for a land trade route that you need a peace of road leading to the other civs capital, which is fair enough. But how about Ocean trade routes?

In a game that i'm playing now, i had a deal exporting uranium to Egypt (on another continent) for 250gpt. Suddenly the deal just ended about 4turns in.. I looked and Egypt doesn't even have a harbour or a airport, but thats the same as another civ in which i'm trading with now. Is it because a civ that Egypt is at war with has ships in between me and Egypt? that cant be the case either because my deal with germany would have ended.

Can someone explain Sea Route trade to me?
thanks.

In order to trade across oceans, you must discover Magnetism or Navigation and you and your partner (or another friendly nation on hte other continent) must have a harbor or an airport.
Yes, you're right, the only way to close the trade is a naval loacade of yoiur or your terading partner's harbor.

Ok, but when I look at their teritory they have no harbour at all :(, where abouts does the blocade have to occur? like is there a straight line drawn between both harbours and any enemy ships which pass through that line it breaks the trade? that would be impossible to control, so it cant be that right?

Perhaps they ran out of cash and sold their harbor? Perhaps their harbor was destroyed in air bombardment? Perhaps one of their city was captured? Perhaps their teleport malfunctioned and caused tomatoes to rot too fast?

To get an Ocean trade route you or your trading partner must have Magnetism or Navigation and a route through Harbour. Note that Harbour does not have to be built by either trading partner but be connected via road through any other Civilizations as long as you and/or your trading partner are in peace with them.

At the time you were able to trade with Egypt, Egypt was using a Harbour from another Civilization connected to Egypt via roads. I can guess that this other civilization has either broken the road between the Harbour and Egypt or just declare war against egypt. Another possibility would be civilization 'B' located between Egypt and the Civilization having a harbour being at war against the latest.

hope it's clear! :crazyeye:

Ahh this explains it, I wasn't aware that you could use any allies harbour for trade with any other civ as long as the road connects it!, thanks for that!

Yeah anytime anyone goes to war, you gotta re-check your trades. Especially since it can cause you a rep hit.
