Odd Graphics Problem, post if you have it too, or a solution

Folks !

Is this the type of checkered-board screen crash that you have seen ? (See my attachment.)...

I get that screen too. :( - I believe some of us are having compatibilty issues with our 6800's.

Aggeman,

I have pretty much the same system specs you do and I am experiencing the pixillated screen issue -- after playing for a while the screen turns into a pink pixillated mess and totally freezes. Control-Alt-Delete does not work and you have to do a cold reboot to restart the system.

I did notice one thing however. Before installing the patch, when the game credits first came on, there was a flash of the pixilliated screen issue but the game loaded normally after that and played for a while until the issue happened. After applying the patch, thet pixilliated screen issue did not flash in the opening credits anymore (and I thought perhaps the problem was over), yet the issue persisted after playing for about an hour.

This makes me wonder if this is a hardware issue rather than a heat issue as others have aluded to. Moreover, could this pink pixillated screen problem be a hardware issue with the GeForce cards and the Asus motherboards together? Is anyone with these cards and a different motherboard experiening the same problems?

Finally, I find it extremely frustrating that the makers of CIV IV are very quiet and not forthcoming with any meaningful communication regarding their released game. It reminds me of the debacle Masters of Orion 3 was and quite frankly I expect more from a game with Sid's name on it. Rest assured I will think twice before purchasing another game with his name on it if this is the best we can expect from technical support.

Thanks for any help or insight in advance,

Whitewolf

bsebesty: I had very similar "checkerboard" crash as your screenshot, I got that always in less than 5 minutes. 6800GT overheating was actually not the issue at all. What helped was to upgrade my motherboard's VIA chipset drivers, haven't had this crash ever since, played more than 30 hours now in total I think.

monoxism: Looks very much like the old nvidia driver compatibility issue. It's resolved by updating nvidia drivers to version 81.94 or newer (81.95 is the latest as of now).

So this is what I have

AMD 64 2.2GHZ 3200+
ASUS K8V Deluxe SE Motherboard
1 GB PC3200 Ram
ATI x700 256GB AGP Card
Creative Platinum Audigy 2 ZS
2 200GB Maxtor SATA HD (RAID 0 Config)
WIN XP PRO SP2

I am pretty sure that it is not my computer, since I had recently reformatted my computer and reinstalled everything. Civilization 4 is crashing after a couple minutes of play and windows keeps saying there is not enough resources. The Page File Usage usually shoots up to 1.1 GB then crashes. Has anyone had this problem and found a solution for it besides buying more memory.

I took rpriha's suggestion above and updated by chipset drivers and sure enough I have not had a reoccurance of the pixillated screen issue. I will post again if it returns. Thanks for the advice! :)
