Greetings Fanatics,

I happen to know that most of you foks are very tech savvy so forgive me posting this simple question about Steam.

I had originally placed my games on my SSD (850 EVO) which is 500 gigs. Its filling up fast thanks to my daughter who now at 19 has a love of Civ and other games so she has her own account. However her steam and mine I placed both libraries on this 'E' drive which is the SSD.

I got another SSD for Xmas and was going to copy the entire E drive onto a larger slower platter drive as a back up. Than use the 'stripe' method and combine both drives to show as one (1 terrabyte drive) and have my steam library there.

Now, when I re install steam and it gets initialized and adds its stuff back, will I be able to go back and re-paste the entire steam folder, will steam see and recognize all the games or will I still have to re-download them?

If you all have any advice or such please let me know.

Thanks again!

You probably have to re download. I've been putting newer games on my backup drive. I really haven't seen any significant slow downs. Though I think I still have Civ6 on my main drive. Which isn't an SSD but a 10,000 rpm drive.

If that doesn't work, Steam has a mover feature built in. Just look for the local files and then choose the option to move them to another place, then select your new drive.

Right Click on Game -> Properties -> Local File -> Move Install Folder.

I would personally avoid raid on your drives, if one drive goes down, or if your raid software dies (windows crash) you could lose both drives.

What you can do is split your Games into multiple folders, you can select the install directory when you first download the game.

To answer your question though, moving the steamapps folder is no problem, you just need to tell steam where to look for the games. The first time you play the games it may try to download but it won't actually do it and saves will be intact.
