*Official* DISCUSSION: Renaming units & cities

We would argue that renaming cities would cause too much confusion and difficulty for other teams trying to make plans - or even just trying discus what they can see.

This doesn't read well......

MIA is against city renaming for various reasons, except in one circumstance: conquest, where the original name will be in brackets. We are also against renaming of units once a name has been given. The unit identifier must also remain.

Good start Prez ... I have just fixed some spelling ... the new or changed is in bold ...

Since Rik brought it up, Team MIA have discussed this topic at length. We would argue that renaming cities would cause too much confusion and difficulty for other teams trying to make plans - or even just trying to discuss what they can see. Thus giving an unfair advantage to teams that frequently rename (even non-maliciously) their cities.
However, when a city has been conquered – the conquering forces should be allowed to rename the city once – as long as the old city name is left in brackets.

Example. City "Constantinople" is conquered by the Turks. City name then becomes "Istanbul (Constantinople)" ... However since there is a 23 character limit ... this would not be a good example

Of course, any name calling of any sort should be prohibited in the re-naming of cities.

Units should retain their normal name Class – but you can add anything else a team would like. (ie "Worker – OurSlave1" or "Warrior – CapitalDefence3")
Units should NOT be allowed to change their names once named.

Except when being upgraded and then only their class would change

Spearman - Fred would change to Pikeman - Fred when upgraded

Yes - in brackets.

Yes - see above.

Of course - other citizens may have input - and you should feel free to edit this language as you see fit!
Thanks Ybbor!

Fe- I removed the language that offends me. I would have used the strikethru tag, but I don't know it. I may be being a little hyper about this. It's just that if we're the only team with a looking glass, we really can't afford to give up that advantage! That's why I think it's not a good idea to offer any reason for the objection to renaming.

Excellent ... reads well

Tutorial 1 : if you notice a box bottome left corner of the screen ... titled Posting Rules

>click on vB code ... this gives you all commands including strike through :D

[s ] [/s ] with out the spaces is strikethrough

sounds good. I like how it would be a problem for "other teams" but not for us ;)
