Official Scenarios?

Years ago I had Civ II MP Gold...I think. Anyhow, I recently picked up ToT thinking it'd be quite the upgrade, including all of the scenarios, if not more. Needless to say, I was wrong. So I also bought "the ultimate version of the best-selling strategy game", Civ II. This one didn't come with any scenarios...none. I know I can pick up plenty of decent scenarios here, but is there any way to get such classics as:

After the Apocalypse
Age of Discovery
The Age of Napoleon
Alexander the Great
Alien Invasion
American Civil War
The Crusades
The Great War
Jihad: The Rise of Islam
The Mongol Horde
The War for Independence
World War: 1979

to name a few? Hoping I didn't get ripped twice and thanks for any help.

Well, you sort of did, depending on your view.

Test of Time is, in fact, the last and best version of Civ2 out there and has many new wonderful scenarios in production here. But ToT is incompatible with earlier versions, which is the reason why no scenarios came with it.

Angelo Scotto, did, however, make a converter. It takes a little effort to convert existing scenarios, but it is certainly possible. I'll point you straight to Catfish's guide (it has download links as well): http://users.tpg.com.au/jpwbeest/jp_conversion.htm

That won't actually help you get those FW+CiC (= MGE) scenarios, though. But you may find comfort in the fact that there are many more and much better scenarios out there that you can play. ;)

They did release an official scenario for ToT too, though: The Time Threat Paradox. You can find it here, among other places (it's at the very bottom):

Coincidentally, you can also find the official patches for Civ2 there. You might need them. Be sure to (re)install the ToT patch after the Time Threat Paradox scenario, if you decide to install that.

Now about "The ultimate version of the best-selling strategy game"... Twelve years after its original release, this may be a bit of a confusing line. That tagline was used on the original ("classic") Civ2 release. Ultimate version refers to it being the latest and greatest successor to the best-selling strategy game Civ1.

That classic Civ2 release predates all the scenarios, so you won't be able to run them. There are unofficial, legally grey, but seemingly officially okayed patches out there (among the Civ2 downloads on this site even) that can convert your Civ2 classic to FW or MGE, but those will still leave you without the original scenarios.

The best I can offer you there is this... Before they released the first Civ2 add-on, Conflicts in Civilization, Microprose released two free scenarios. They're early versions of the Alexander the Great and Age of Discovery scenarios later included in the CiC (and MGE) add-on. They work on Civ2 classic:

Gah, you're not going to recommend that to someone starting out, are you?

Check this links page. You should find plenty of ToT scenarios from there, including a bunch of converted FW/MGE ones.

Hmmm, yes, quite true... But it's kind of the only option short of finding existing conversions, or asking others to do the conversions for you... I don't really know anywhere where you can find conversions easily, aside from rummaging through the Scenario League forum (ah, and Tecumseh's site).

While on the subject of scenarios, I just purchased Chronicles, and I have major problems with these extra scenarios. The original two work fine, but most of the added twelve don't work at all. This is extremely annoying as WWI has already become easy, what conquering the Central powers as France in less than six months and all, and I have no interest in playing the Martian or WWIII scenarios, the only ones that work. Does anyone know what could be causing this problem, and how I can fix it?

There are links to all of the ones that I've released on that links page.

:o

That's a known problem and I don't know if there's any fix for it:

I have no idea if this can work, but you could perhaps try installing Cedric's MGE patch. Download the 5 Civ2 MGE zips and unzip them in your Civ2 folder, overwriting existing files (better copy your Civ2 folder first so you can restore that if this goes wrong):
