Played Civ too long in one go because I wanted to pulverize the Persians that had an empire twice as large as mine upon declaration of war. Well, the hours flew by, and now I'm seeing grid patterns everywhere I look, on my carpet, in my ashtray, on the pavement outside... Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Don't worry, those grid patterns are perfectly natural. You never noticed before because your eyes weren't properly focused.

Well, I find it impossible to read after prolonged games of Tetris. (The words start changing orientation and slowly falling down the page.) But I can't say Civ's ever done it to me.

Actually, when I focus my eyes, the pattern disappears, but when I have a sort of all-encompassing view, I see grids everywhere! 3 hours now that I've stopped playing, and I'm still seeing them. In my black ashtray, there are black lines! Does that make any sense?

could it be the ashtray has black lines on it or perhaps your smokeing somethin other than cigerattes as we would assume

My prior consumption of the mary jane has nothing to do with it. Un-high now, and I'm still seeing the grids!

Something really weird happened to me. It was that after I played Empire Earth at a sleepover for well over 3 hours straight and not sleeping a wink that night I got a haircut back home. I was half-dreaming and saw little health bars above my hair while Mom was cutting it with scissors.

Seriously. This was weird.

You went to a friend's sleepover and spend the night on his computer?

hehe, this would fit perfectly in the "you know you've played too much civ when..." thread. :)

I have had similar things, but not with civ3 yet.

I have seen many starcraft battles play in front of my eyes while there was no PC near me. Also long ago, i used to play supaplex on my 286, a pretty difficult puzzle game. I used to dream about that game :s. In the evening i played a level for hours without getting trough it, then i the next morning, i completed it in minutes because i "had seen the light" during the night.

Had these things with more PC games in the past.

Induced images and after-images and phenomenon like that.

Ever stared at the creeper at the bottom of 24/7 news channels too long? same thing.

How can you play Civ without the grid?! It's like living in a house without a roof! ;)

I play Civ without the grid all the time. I think I got used to it. Now, when I try to play it with the grid, somehow I think there is something wrong.

Lines in your black ashtray?

You better send a unit in there to explore, quick!

Or workers to clean up the pollution :D

Can you possibly refer me to that thread?

I once played the legend of zelda for gameboy so long when I closed my eyes I saw enemies and when it was quiet I heard the steady beat of gameboy music :)
