Well, the week has come and gone. Still no editor. So we're taking months to convert the format of the documentation? Far be it from me to suggest that most of that should have been done a long time ago.

The N64 I bought a week ago hasn't shown up yet, despite being assured it would be sent out Priority Mail on Monday - though only after I specifically pressed them for information, since they didn't feel like telling me anything at all. I emailed the people today because it hasn't arrived. Guess what? They f***ed up and didn't actually send it until yesterday. And yet they couldn't see fit to TELL ME ABOUT THIS?!? :wallbash: You can be sure SOMEBODY is getting some very negative feedback at eBay. :slay:

And just to add insult to injury, I just got back from the dentist (at the dental school associated with BU). They want to take my wisdom teeth out. [punch] They are going to charge me $1200 for this privilege - and oh yes, the student dental plan doesn't cover it. So I, the poor, struggling-to-make-ends-meet graduate student, get to pay up. And they assure me it can't wait until summer 2004 when I'll be married and on Gina's dental coverage which WOULD cover it. :aargh:

Joy to the bloody world. :die:

Yeah, I'm bummin' right along with you. Well, there's still a few hours *cough* left of this Friday afternoon, they might *cough**cough* make it in *cough* time...

Definite aggravation about the mailing delay. I've had similar problems and words can't describe... Well, okay, words can describe, but not words they like in this forum...
And just to add insult to injury... they assure me it can't wait until summer 2004...
Perverse isn't it? They do things to you that would make Amnesty International cringe... and they make you pay for it. It's just sick! But...
I'm neither doctor nor dentist, but if they aren't hurting, I'd tell the dentist "tough luck" (or something similar). I can't tell you how many stories we've run about questionable medical practices, most of them some angle on profiteering doctors. If you're teeth aren't hurting, it might be that the only real reason the dentist says they have to go now (as opposed to all the years you've lived with them so far) is because that dentist needs to make payments on his kids' BMW. If you can, get a second [and a third] opinion.

Well, they tell me that if they're left alone they could start making my OTHER teeth crack, leading to far more expensive repairs. Kind of "if you wait until it hurts, it's already too late." It's also supposedly easier to take them out the younger you are - apparently around my age things start hardening up or something like that. And three different dentists - in two different cities - agree that it shouldn't be put off. Finally, since I'm getting it done at a dental school instead of a private practice, the dentists involved don't have any direct interest in doing expensive procedures. I don't exactly like it, but it seems rather solid that it's necessary.

Oh, and I'd have more to say on the shipping thing, except if I say more before I get a chance to cool down I WILL be using all of those words that aren't welcome in a public forum.

Sorry 'bout that, Beamup.

No editor... and dental work.
Oy.

You have a point, however in their defense, a great deal of the help stuff involves replacing screenshots of the various Windows dialogs and junk with Mac pictures. I suspect that they wanted to wait until it was nearly final to start taking screenshots. FWIW, I sent back a build with the final (or close to it) help stuff included earlier this week. Read into that whatever you want, although I don't know if this means it'll show up on a website today or a week from today.

They want to take my wisdom teeth out. [punch]

I can't believe there's an emoticon for that. ;)

Well, I'm probably not being totally fair. I'm just in a VERY bad mood at the moment, which is kind of coloring my perspective on things. Oh well, Gina will be here for a nice candlelight dinner in half an hour or so. That will definitely make me feel better.

And that "punch" emoticon does seem... oddly... appropriate. Just had to use it there.

Would a quick (secret?) civil marriage provide the dental coverage now? You can always have the big wedding on schedule. :love2:

Me too, Beamup. I came home tonight to my wife informing me that our email wouldn't work. I said, "That is odd." She said, "Well [junior] was on it while I was taking care of the baby." I said, "[Junior] shouldn't be on the computer by himself. He is just 4 years old, you know." She said, "Well, sometimes I need him occupied." I said, "It can't happen. That is what the N64 is for!"

Now, all bookmarks in Safari and IE are gone. The entire address book,....wiped clean. And, I had to spend a little bit of time tracking down all our email information. Not what I really wanted after a 12 hour day. :spank:

But, everyone is well and tucked safely into bed.

Beamup -- if at ALL possible, ask these people to put you under with anesthesia and to remove all four of your wisdom teeth at once (or however many they think you need out). I had mine out when I was 16, and my parents' insurance wouldn't cover general anesthesia. So, I had to stay WIDE AWAKE while the oral surgeon hacked away at my gums. I could feel every incision, every scrape (it didn't hurt too much thanks to the numbing shots he gave me, but the very idea made me want to vomit). What's worse, the oral surgeon refused to do all four at once, since I wouldn't be able to chew anything. So, he did the left side first, then I had to go home for two weeks with the full knowledge that I would have to sit through the whole nausiating procedure AGAIN in two-weeks' time.

In short, get yourself put under. For the love of GOD, get yourself put under. :|

They were going to do that anyway since they do need to take out all four, and need to go through bone in every case. They could only do two at a time without the general, and don't like going through bone with only the local, so they wanted to do the general anyway. Since it only added another $150 to the bill, I agreed. But thanks for the advice, that's exactly what I DON'T want to have happen.

Oh, and gfeier - it would work, but we don't want to do that.

And (thankfully) my parents have agreed to cover the cost - "needed medical procedures shouldn't depend on finances." So things look a bit up - but the N64 didn't arrive today, so I get to wait till Tuesday - more than a week after the games arrived.

Glad to hear you've had a reversal of fortune, for the better, Beamup!

Question: ever since my bookmarks, email, etc. got wiped clean, Safari no longers offer the complete list of bookmarks in the drop down window. Only the bookmark bar is offered as an option in preferences. Does anyone know how I can get all my bookmarks to show up? This really bugs me. Thanks.

You need to put the bookmarks into the "bookmarks menu" option. Click the little book on the bar, and you should be able to move any you want into there. Hope this helps.
