Okay, the last time I played was on Friday, and this just started happening yesterday, and I can't figure out why!!!! Heres the problem:

Everytime I put the game disc into the D: drive, my computer doesn't read it! The auto-run screen doesn't pop up, and when I try and go into the D: file to open stuff from in there, it says that the "drive isn't accesable" or something like that. Also, when the game disc is DEFINITELY in the D: drive (I've also tried the E:, but it didn't work either) and I click on the shortcut on my desktop for "Run CivIII," the beginning little start screen pops up, and then it says that the CD isn't in the computer! What the heck! The CD is most definitely in the computer.

Also, even when it reads the disc, sometimes it'll just kinda hang on that little "Civ III" pre-startup thing it does. I can hear the CD just clicking, but the game doesn't start. My computer doesn't freeze, it just seems like the starup of the game does.

I just wanna play this darn game!! This is terribly frustrating, so can't anybody help me... please?!?!?!?!?!

I had the same message, so I uninstalled the game and all patches, then reinstalled from the CD and reinstalled the latest patch and haven't had a problem since.

I'll try that.

Okay... any other suggestions?

My computer still isn't reading the disc, even after I uninstalled the game.

So now not only is the game off of my computer, but I can't get it back on!!!

Gosh darnit!!! I need help!!! I just wanna play!

Check your CD connections. Also, try another CD to determine if it's the Civ3 CD that's having problems, our your CD-ROM drives. If it's the Civ3 CD, you can email Firaxis or Infogrames.

How do I check my CD connections?

Ok, first, put a new CD in, and see if that CD works.

Now - what kind of computer do you have? (laptop? desktop? towercase?...) Unscrew the screws in the back of the computer (assuming it's not a laptop and you have an internal CDROM drive). I think most computers now have a panel that slides out.

You should be able to see your system board, HD, etc. Look at where your CD is, and at the end of that is a connector. Try pushing it in to see if it goes in any more. Also, trace it down to see if there's a secondary connector. Try pushing that in too.

If that doesn't work, and putting a new CD in doesn't work. You can try downloading an updated driver, or at the last resort, send it to the manufacturer or store where you bought it from. (which is why I by my own parts)

I have a Dell Demension Series desktop computer, and I do have a bunch of viruses on my computer that keep popping up everywhere, but I don't see how one would be responsible for my computer not reading the CD-ROM drive at all anymore. Because I tried other games, and nothing works. It won't read anything I put in there. Sometimes the damn tray doesn't even come out! And by the way, this just started last friday.

I opened up my computer, and everything was hooked up just fine to the CD thing. So, now, about these drivers..... do you mean windows drivers or drivers for my graphics card or what.

I just am so fed up and tired of all of this. I just want to play my game!!!!! GAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
