Hey all...old hardcore Civ2 player (beat diety routinely, fwiw), dabbled with Civ3 but just started on Civ4. A lot of the basics are similar, but I still have a lot of questions. Hopefully someone out there can help.

1) Do roads bring in resources (wine, copper, etc) or do they need to be worked?
2) Can resources be use if they are inside your cultural boundaries but outside your city boundaries?
3) How is a religion founding city determined? (ex. In my first game I founded Hindu & Judaism in my capitol, but later Christianity in my third city)
4) Do AI leader personalities correspond to their traits? If so, how? If not, is there an analysis of typical personalities and how they react to different things?
5) How often do forests grow/regrow?
6) Recommended strategies/traits for culture win? (Seems to fit my playing style the best but I can't decide between the traits. Organized and Expansion seem to be the worst, but I can't choose between the others)
7) For financial trait...one guide says you get one extra gold for ever two gold per production square. So if I have 2 commerce on one square, but have science set to 100%, will I get anything?

Thanks for the help.

1. Both. But you can only build an improvement inside your cultural borders.

2. Yes, this is as far away as they can be used.

3. It's random, as far as I can tell...

4. Basically... The traits are tendancies... Genghis Khan will trend toward military tech and will pounce on your exposed flank...

5. The forest must be unworked by your citizens... then it's just a random % per turn for it to spawn more forest in an adjacent unworked square...

6. Haven't tried specifically for a culture win...but Financial is what most guides I've read recommend...Extra money is extra money... also, Industrious or Philosophical for Wonders & Great People, respectively...

You're welcome ;)

1-2. Roads bring in resources outside the city limits but inside your cultural boundaries. The resources need to be "improved" by workers, though.
3. Which city a religion is founded in seems to be somewhat random. I've noticed it happening most often in my most recently built city.
4. I think the personalities and traits match up rather well, although some are more aggressive than one might have assumed based on their traits.
5. I haven't seen forests regrow that often. I wouldn't count too much on regrowth. Chop outside your city boundaries seems to work best.
6. Cultural win seems pretty hard--I've tried it 3 times and achieved it only once, as Elizabeth (philosophical/financial). Choose your 3 cities early on--keep them building either wonders that improve culture, or simply producing culture. Some say the "creative" trait is best for this, but I think "philosophical" is probably the best.
