Old Style Graphics

I like the new gameplay in Civ IV, but I think the "improvement" in the graphics has been a mistake.

Call me old fashioned, but I think the fancy new graphics detract from the game. I can't see enough of the map at a time, and it's much harder to take in the scene at a glance. There's just too much detail, making individual pieces hard to identify.

How hard would it be to create a mod to make the map view look more like it did in Civ III? (Ie: more iconic and less 'realistic').

I think it was also a mistake, but that's from a modder's viewpoint (3d units are so much harder than 2d...)
Of course you don't get the AWESOME screenshots in 2d either...
It would be possible, I think someone talked about this earlier, but I'm too lazy to look up the thread :D.
You'd want to freeze the graphics viewpoint,
then make all of the units into
Cardboard Counters
or just
Flat
As well as the terrain, buildings, etc...
A lotta work...
