It's really only the past 100 to 150 years that cousins have been considered too consanguine/incestuous in Western cultures. Before that, they were ideal marriage candidates because it kept the wealth in the family. In some cultures they're still considered ideal marriage candidates. (Here's a fun one: in societies with Iroquois kinship terminology the children of your parents' opposite-sex siblings [your cross cousins] are marriageable but the children of your parents' same-sex siblings [your parallel cousins] are considered your siblings.)
Assyria had Southern Italy, Persia Northen Italy. The 3 of us started very close from each other while Carthage started in Portugal and the rest of the map was barbs
Well, well, my dear bitterromantic hubby, so nice of you to call on me once in twenty years, to know me better. I do hope, after this pleasant stroll, we'll have tea together some time, in another twenty years or so, if you're still around. At this rate we may even hold hands before a century passes...
(yes, I do realize that at that age and being severely ill just might have something to do with this sort of affairs, but still, there was some pent-up rage to vent )
Quick update:
Next turn it appeared that the sight of my sort of person was too much to bear for him. Well, the joke's on him, try to know who you marry before you marry. What? Yes, call of the tea, he won't be coming on...
Previous turn Persia declared war on us. This turn both the Persian King and my ruler character die simultaneously. Couldn't the old bastard wait a bit with the declaration? So typical for the older folks to ruin life for the young generation and then peace out scot free. This game is a bit too realistic
I just don't understand why the new Persian Queen organizes the acceptance ceremony in an Egyptian border city, which does not have any temple, btw:
