A few days ago I saw a thread stating that an older version worked for CivIV. I cant find it........ but I wanted to know if anyone has tried it and if it works, also which version you are using.
Stay with what you have - Firaxis loaded additions to 9.0c with Civ IV V1 install. Dont know if they are needed with V1.52, but in any event they will take care of that in the install routine if they did still need them. Dont go lower than V9.0c as they will have coded assuming you have that version loaded.

Not only will it not work with an "older" version of DirectX (prior to 9.0c assuming), but it actually requires an "updated" version of 9.0c to run. Specifically, it requires at a minimum, the June 2005 DirectX 9.0c Update (or the specific new files contained therein).
You can get the latest cumulative updated version of DirectX 9.0c (from December 2005, it also includes the June 2005 Update that Civ 4 needs) at the following URL:

The June 2005 (or later December cumulative) Update for Direct 9.0c is in fact required for all versions of Civ 4.
Not only can you not go "lower" than 9.0c, but you actually have to go "higher" and get at least the June 2005 DirectX 9.0c Update, and preferably the December 2005 DirectX 9.0c Update.
