Please make sure you have finished any previous setup and closed other applications.
If the error still occurs, please contact your vendor: Firaxis Games."

Shut your computer off completely for about 60 seconds (to clear the RAM) and then boot up and try again.

If the problem stays, give us the specs of your pc

(and don't say its a dell please, tell us what cpu, how much ram, which videocard etc :) )

im running a athlon 64 3000, 1gb of ram, nividea 6200 256 turbochache. I did turn my computer off, it then started to install but i got a crc error

It looked protect bugged. I mean it is protected file in your CD.
For example:
If you burn other copy of Civ4 then install it and you will get error like that!
OR
Otherwish it is uninstall bugged

Someone getting the same errors (for another game) fixed this by:

'Not sure what that error was all about, but I tried reinstalling everything again. Probably did it in the proper order this time Uninstalled drivers for on board sound, shut down PC, rebooted and went into BIOS, disabled onboard sound through BIOS, rebooted, shut down again, installed sound card in PCI slot, turned computer back on, put in CD, installed drivers, and they actually worked this time. Excellent!'

Well after exchanging the game twice and googling for an hour or so I decided to screw it all and just reinstall xp. And I'm happy to say, only 5 hours after i picked up the game it works!
