After reading all the stories on here and pounding my head through my desk for hours, I finally got it all to work. After a little background, here's how.

Background:

Machine is brand new 27" iMac. First I ran Civ5 in Parallels 5 and it worked, but was slow and only worked well enough to play with low graphical details. Movies were choppy so I moved to Boot Camp.

Like many on here, when I ran Civ5 in Windows 7 in Boot Camp, I got the dreaded "civilization v has encountered a problem and needs to close" error message when I started up Civ5 and right before a crash. This error happened 100% of the time. So here's what I did.

How I got Civ5 to work on the iMac in Boot Camp using Windows 7
One thing I didn't know was that although Windows 7 was seemingly running fine in Boot Camp after I installed it, it was running using all default drivers. In the end, what I needed to do was update ALL the drivers. Here's how I did it.

(1) Once in Windows, insert your Snow Leopard installation disc (yes, the Mac one). This will either starup automatically or open the "setup.exe" file. This will get all the drivers up to date.

(2) If you have a more modern mac (like me), there is a set of updated drivers here:

http://support.apple.com/kb/dl995

Download those and make sure to install the ATI graphics driver by going into the ATI folder and clicking on the executable file. This will update the graphics driver.

I think the computer will require a restart into Windows 7.

Once you restart, install (or reinstall) Civ5. It should work 100% fine.

This is my story. I hope it helps.
