yes it's true. This is my first game but as soon as it went obsolete hitting education all the cities' build list have temple available again...
this is so far the 2nd bug i've found..

That is not a bug - all free improvements from wonders offering them disappears once the wonder becomes obsolete (if it ever does that is).
Only exception is for cities that already had the improvement before the wonder offered it for free, in which case you will just have to start paying maintenance for that improvement again - once wonder becomes obsolete.

oic... coz i remember i used to build the Pyramid and free granaries just pop up in all the cities on the continent... maybe it's coz the pyramid never expires and i took it for granted... o well thx

Something else that bugs me about the culture buildings provided by wonders. I have noticed that if you mod a wonder to provide free temples/libraries/whatever, that those free buildings don't get the 1000 year bonus.

Going with what CyberChrist mentioned, I'm willing to bet that its the case that if you have a temple constructed prior to completion of a temple-providing wonder, then your grandfather-clause temple will still get the 1000 year bonus.

After 1000 years you get double culture from a culture producing structure that you built.

In the "developer's update on wonders" thread, I wondered if the free ToA temples would somehow age-wise count for newly built temples (after edu). If not, ToA may not be that useful for a 100k game, maybe it's *just* useful to boost your culture (respectively cover some territory by border expansions) on 'short term'.

Regarding culture victory, it would be nifty if a city w/ a free ToA temple had still the usual temple build option, so one could grab the 1000 years bonus (earlier) in one or another city that ran out of build choices...
:)

They are the two ways to win a culture victory, 100K culture points in your entire empire or 20K in one city.

Think of it this way:

The Temple of Artemis is actually a cult that your people eventually abandon. Those temples that they made no longer mean anything to them. So, you have to build real temples in it's place.

It's only meant as a temporary wonder for early warmongers just to expand the borders quicker.

I guess that estimation makes sense, especially when the war-mongering spawns a GL for a rush.

Hehe, OTOH, I'm looking forward to my first ToA capturing attempt.:D

...except that military great leaders no longer can rush wonders. Only small wonders and improvements.

Now, only scientific leaders can rush wonders. I don't like that at all. Not that the military leaders cannot, but that scientific leaders, which are extremely random to get can give you a wonder.

Ok.
Well, I firstly had the impression that ToA would be the ultimative wonder for a 100k attempt (which I now doubt).
If there's merely chances to rush that expensive ToA (500 shields), focus goes on capturing it.

PS: Now don't tell me I won't get the free temples when capturing ToA...:)

Nope, you won't. :p

j/k! Actually, you do get free temples.

well...seems like the temple of artimis will now only have use in my empire as a stepping stone to build the temple of every one favorite amourous Olympian, the mighty Zeus :)

Chieftess,

1. Usually, we are allowed to build colloseums only after we have temples. Now... can we build Colloseums with the pseudo-temples we got from Temple-of-Artemis?

2. When the pseudo-temples as an affect of this ToA wonder dissapears, ....will our Colloseums dissapear too? That would be awful... :(

You should be able to build a collosseum (tech construction is available w/o cermeonial burrial anyways) w/o having a temple, in vanilla, that is.
Temple would be a pre-requisite for a cathedral, but the cathedral-enabling tech comes after education (again, in vanilla, that is).

Knowing your reputation, Niceone, I'm a bit ashamed to ask :) but is that a confirmed fact ? Because I don't remember seeing it anywhere...

Actually if it is the case, I find it cool... It always worried me that only militaristic players could get a chance to rush wonders. I'm rather a culture-science guy (go babs  ) so I very seldom have great leaders !
Now, of course, if only scientific civs get to rush wonders, problem is the same... though not on my side anymore ;)
