I've only recently tried the One-City Challenge type game, and I must say it's fun being able to build all National Wonders in the same city, without first collecting the multiple prerequisite buildings for each. But what I want to know is:

Since the National Park turns forest preserves into free specialists, I'm keen to build it - but as it will also eliminates access to coal from my single city, will that leave my workers unable to construct railroads? Obviously, I greatly value the production bonus of railroads on mines and lumbermills, especially if I have only one city! Also, will the removal of coal make the Ironworks worthless?

If you have access to coal either in your territory or trade for it, even with natl park, you can build rails. If you dont have coal, you can still build rails with oil. Ironworks will not be uselss, youll still get the prodution bonus from iron....if you have it or have traded for it.

Thanks: I'll have to restart my game now, since I was just wiped out by a suprise stack of doom attack before completing my National Park...

National epic
Globe theater
Oxford univ
Ironworks
National park

are the 5 ideal national wonders in my view (only 5 allowed in BTS). That is why in OCC games coastal starts are inferior since you will need the maoi statues and will have to skip one of the above.

only 5 allowed in BTS.

I didn't know that. So if you build the Heroic Epic for fast unit production, you sacrifice the equally advantageous Ironworks later? And no Wall Street for the cash cow effect? :(

Yeap...however unit production is never a problem in OCC so heroic epic would be a waste.

Don't forget you will be running bureocracy so after that you should built units in 1 turn anyway.

Cash flow is never a problem with OCC. You have almost no corruption and trade routes and bueracracy should be able to support an army. Found a religion and you are golden.

Couple things for an OCC:

One city. Just pump out 5-8 Workers and you'll be all set. Found an early religion and spread it to everyone but one or two Civs that are far away. Then have your pet dogs attack em.

Bureaucracy, Representation, Caste System, Free Religion OR Pacifism, and Free Market OR Mercantilism

Why on earth would you build 5-8 workers for OCC? I think i've never build more than one in OCC game. Why would you want so many? So that they could hang on together when doing nothing, which will be most of the game :mischief:?

(edit. Well, they could be used to fix sabotaged improvements..)

2 workers is the max I would build, 1 might be fine as well.

If 5-8 workers are good for a OCC, then surely 30 would be better...matter of fact...build them all before anything else and stay at size 1 till they are done. If you get overrun with barb warriors...build scouts as they can distract the barbs.

I assume you're being facetious, Cabledawg...

5-8 workers?! Well, I'm not much of a OCC player but I would never build more than 2 or 3.
