For the last little while, I keep getting pangaea maps with only one iron source for the whole continent and all the Civs.

I do have a continents map that seems to be short on iron for the available terrain but because it is an SG map, we have not explored it all yet to see if there is a problem. It may be fine and iron could just be scarce.

Someone suggested that I could alter the iron incidence under Natural Resources in my .bics and biqs so I changed it from 1 to zero as suggested... Did nothing. I got fed up and changed the reading to 500 but I have not played again and don't expect to at that rate but I was frustrated at that point.

Timerover51 suggested that I ask here and see if y'all have any ideas.

I do make a lot of graphics (only) changes.

I could uninstall and reinstall I guess but I hate having to change leaderheads all the time.

Well, this is new. I've never had this kind of problem, I always have plenty of resources on my continents and islands. But then again, I never changed anything in the .biq files either.

I always did too until the last couple of weeks.

I only changed the .bic/.biq because it did this so that didn't start the problem.

In all of my .biq/.bic files the iron appearance ratio is set to 160, and disappearance probablility to 800. What I did was open conquests.biq and generate a map, and it had a normal amount of iron spread around the map. I went into the rules and changed the appearance ratio to 1, generated a map, and there was only 1 source of iron in the whole world! When I changed it to 0, there was no iron at all. With a value of 500, there was iron almost every 10 squares.

It looks like the appearance ratio governs how much of a resource appears on the map when it is generated. If you set the numbers for iron to the defaults of appearance ratio = 160 and disappearance probability = 800, you should have it back to normal with plenty of iron for everyone.

When you start a new game the map generator makes the game based on the values it has in the default .bic/.biq files (unless you are playing a scenario). Unfortunately, the map generator has nothing to do with saved games even if you change the values in the editor, so any games that have already been started and saved with the old values will be unaffected. You would have to start a new game and explore around to see if the amount of iron is OK, or you could generate some maps in the editor.

I was functioning at the 160 level when the problem first came up. I think I will set it at 200 and see how that goes.

I have been thinking that some game I downloaded caused some change. You are right about Iron showing up frequently with it set at 500 though

Thank you for the information. Appreciate it.
