Let me start by saying I've read and (re-read again today) Cracker.
But I'm looking to bounce off some of you your thoughts on my opening moves.
The seed # is 56774445 and I'm playing Hiawatha DG (1st time).
If you can't see here are the power squares :) .
The inside 9 are....
I'm on a river 3/1/3
E wheat on grass 3/0/0 over the river
SE Forest 1/2/0 over the river
N/SW/NW bonus grass 2/1/0
S 2/0/1
Inside the cultural border...
NNW a cow 3/1/0, 3 more bonus grass WW NWW and NNE and a hill all within the cultural border.
My thoughts are to build warrior and put citizen on wheat.
Mine the NW bonus grass road and then mine the cattle road and come back and irrigate the wheat. As far as builds go I was thinking 2 warriors (1 to explore and 1 to hold down the fort), settler, granary (chop?)and then settler city. If there is one thing I've learned is grow, grow grow.
Does my sequence sound right  ? What are your thoughts?
Thanks!

The seed number only builds the world, it doesn't specify your start position. You should post a screenshot.

sorry:blush:...i broke my wireless card on my laptop no screenshots yet.
Iroquois 60% continent standard normal temperate 5 billion vs babs, russians, koreans, americans, scans, ottos and germans...does this help?

I put those values into the editor along with the seed number. This is the only location I can find with a wheat E and a cow N,NW. Does this look like your start location?

that's the spot

Are the BGs in the right place? From your description in the first post they seem to be in different places to where they should be.

From the image, I would move E to the wheat and irrigate/road then W to the city square, N and road, NW to the cow then mine/road. I would then proceed to mine/road the BGs plus time a forest chop to get the granary. I believe this will get +5 food per turn and set up a 4 turn settler factory, though I have not studied this in depth yet.

I would irrigate the wheat first. Then instead of wasting moves to get up to the cow, mine the two bonus grass to the east. By that time your city border should grow just from the palace.

Then head up to the cow. with that, and your forrest, you should get a 4 turn settler factory.

BTW, you said there is a BG to the NW, I do not see it

You are correct....the map is the same "look" but the BG's are where I said they are....can I say do over? Sorry for being such a noob..

If you have a correct picture, i might tomorrow calculate some excel sheets for you. That would be around 18 hours after this post if i have time.

thanks all

i decided to go and after 50 turns i have a 4 turn factory. 1 born in 2, 1 settler en route, 6 cities, 5 warriors, curragh, only 4 workers but a factory on the way, furs and ivory..met 2 civs behind tech but writing done in 1. Does this sound ok?

What version of civ are you using? I generated that map using the C3C editor, so if you are playing vanilla or PTW then that would explain the BGs moving.

As for your game, you need to meet more civs. If you know more AI civs who have the same techs then it will be cheaper for you to trade with them.

I am playing PTW. I've been moving along. 3 Civs now. I just posted in "Quick answers". Strangest thing...I've been asked for tribute twice both when I was paying GPT to that Civ. First time just singed a 9 gpt deal...no blood and it lasted 6 turns. traded my tech and 45 G for 1 tech and the tech I was about to finish. 2 turns later....BAM 3 G tribute from Babs....they declare!! Bye bye 17 GPT being paid.
Lucky!

Wow! I war for 6 turns. End up saving the 17 GPT, get a city and 4 slaves...then get my GA. After 6 turns I trade for republic 176 G plus 26 gpt....I think I'll just keep agitating them. Lucky!
