Opening up a single player game for more players

Hi all,
I was just wondering if there was a way to open up a single player game to multiplayer?
As in, my friend is playing a single player game, and I want to jump in as one of the other civs in the game. Is this possible?

Save a game in Single Player, then go into the MultiPlayer lobby and load up a saved game.
