Found this hidden among the tech news today: Opera Internet Browser has released a beta of its next 9.60 version. For those of you already using Opera I'm sure it's an easy choice to try it. But for those of you who aren't, here's some of its features (all built-in):

*Speed dial. Allows you to set up 9 pages that can be loaded either by clicking an icon (where Google got the idea for Chrome) or by Ctrl+[number]. Very handy for pages you visit often, much quicker than typing it out.

*One-letter custom searching in the address bar. Instead of having just one search engine in the address bar a la IE and Chrome, you can have as many as you want, and you can add your own. Type "a civilization iv" and you'll get an Amazon search for Civ4; "y cannon rock" will give you a Yahoo search for the popular YouTube video initially but you can customize it to do YouTube instead. You could probably even set it up with the CFC search.

*Opera Link. Allows you to load bookmarks and Speed Dial pages. Extremely useful if you ever use bookmarked sites at remote computers. Works best if the other computer has Opera, but it works albeit not as quickly or with quite as much functionality within a tab on another browser as well. 9.60 adds linking to your customized search engines and history as well. Not comfortable linking your history? You can choose to not link it!

*It's very fast. I've never run a faster browser, except perhaps Chrome, which is lacking on features.

There's numerous other handy features as well, but those are the most important three in my opinion. The beta can be downloaded at http://www.opera.com/products/desktop/next/ .
