Opinion/help on my new Wonders

In my opinion, first version of art for Hoover Dam is very good and is way better than yours. Actualy for me that art fits civ5 style.

I tried to imitate the artistic style of civ5 wonder splash screen, i.e. big dry brushing.

Let me know if my poor work is useful or if you want me to work on the other wonder paintings/icons.

Hahahaha! You used a screenshot of the Hoover Dam from Fallout: New Vegas? That is hilarious. Though your touch-up work is impressive I will say.

You do realize the Hoover Dam in the image you used is depicted as being 200 years in the future after a nuclear war? (Hence the wrecked power pylons and the Caesar's Legion slaver fort in the background).

Although I love Fallout: New Vegas and have over 800 hours in it (modding of course), I do prefer the first image, if only because it shows Lake Mead in the background.

Be gentle. I think Wiley's is great. Both good, honestly, but the artistry of Wiley's is to be commended.

As far as these wonders are concerned, I leave it to you all to sort out. I can only have so many hands in so many pots!

I am gentle. Sorry but that's my opinion. I appreciate Wiley's work.

Wow, I like it a lot, great job on this! I think you also got the Civ5-ish art feeling right. My only problem would be the apocalyptic look - to tell the truth I did not notice it at first glance.

And again I would advise caution when using other peoples art as a base - maybe ok if you used a render from another game as a base???

Sorry I haven't posted here in a while, been working on the lua code for the wonders.

As of right now this is what I have done:

Hoover Dam
Now gives +5 :c5production: in the city it was built in, and supplies +10 :c5production: to all other cities that are connected AS LONG AS they are within 15 or less tiles of the city with the Hoover Dam. This "production bonus aura" is limited to 15 tiles, but it doesn't matter if any of the cities are on an island or the same continent, they all get it. If one of your cities with the Hoover Dam's "power connection" gets captured, the enemy Civ doesn't get the bonus. They would have to take the city with the wonder to get anything.

As for the picture, I am going to stick with TPangolin's version. Thank you for your work WileyNg, I think I just like the richer colors in his version. But! If you want to polish the others, I would like to see them.

Potala Palace
Gives +2 :c5culture: +4 :c5faith: and provides a free prophet each time you enter a new era, so a total of 4 if you were to complete it before entering the Industrial era.
If your city were to get captured the enemy Civ would also get the free prophets when they enter a new era, even if they are waaaaay far behind in eras.
Requires you to have a religion and the city must be within 2 tiles of a mountain.

Fort Knox
So it seems the latest version of CPP does allow us to make buildings that can block gold theft from enemy spies. I want to keep that in. I also want to keep it as another fort/military base. So +10 city def and +25 HP.

But it seems we are a little over the place on what else it would do. Any other thoughts?

lol I didn't notice it was an render about an Apocalyptic world.
A major overlook on my part.

If that's the case then maybe I should move on to the next image?
I don't mind if you insist on the old one. Frankly I think it looks a little bit like an image from the lego-world.

Why not give it a Neuschwanstein- like bonus for arsenals in your civ? For example +2 :c5gold: +2 :c5science: +1 :c5happy: (numbers ofc could be changed)

From my quick glance at the wikipedia, Fort Knox is also a US Army School and Armor Center, so the science/happiness is somewhat thematic to it, and also gold allows for that gold hoarding fantasy people apparently have when mentioning it.

But that just a boring bonus, you build arsenals anyways. I wish the bonus was to things that you wont normally build, so now you need to reconsider your queue in tha face of this new wonder.

The other wonders bonuses are welcome!

I have been working on Fort Knox. I still want to keep it that it blocks gold theft from enemy players and I still want it to work as a military base.

I am up in the air about keeping in the 300 gold cost/production limitation. What do you guys think about that? The wonder does still require you to have an arsenal in the city before you can build it (I can better understand just keeping that part in).

For giving you gold luxury copies, I still think the wonder should do this as that was really the whole point on me making the wonder in the first place. However, I think I am going to lower it to just giving you 1 copy instead of 2 of them. That way we wont have to worry about it causing two people to get a gold monopoly if given the right circumstances.

I have also written code for Fort Knox to give you +4 gold a turn for each gold copy you have (whether from your own tiles or imported). The only problem is that while it does work, I cant get the building itself to dynamically show you how much gold its giving you when you are in the city's HUD screen. However the bonus gold does fall under the "+x gold from buildings" part on the left hand side where it shows you where your gold is coming from for that city AND of course you will notice the difference at the top of the screen under your gold per turn in the "empire panel'. So it's working and it shows you the changes under 2/3 of the areas where I would want it shown, I'm still just figuring out how I can fix this or if it's a lost cause.

Now if that sounds good enough, then I can leave it at that. Thoughts?

Aren't wonders supposed to give related building for free?
It's not like any big cities would have problems building arsenal as it is required to reduce disorder anyway.

^ Well Fort Knox isn't giving you a free arsenal, it requires you to have one. I could make it a unique arsenal, but I think the wonder is already doing enough stuff. I would only make it a unique arsenal if I were to take away the part of "+4 gold per turn for each gold copy you have".

So I have finished the wonders, however WileyNg were you working on the art for Potala Palace and Fort Knox? If not, I'll release the wonders later on this week.

Sorry I haven't even started yet. But I am definitely keen to do so.
I will start on it this weekend.

Meanwhile I can help make some icons.

Let me know if this one works.

Hi
Sorry I reworked some of the coarse brush.

Ignore the last one.

So... next step is the art for Fort Knox and the icons for three of the wonders right?

Yup. I can make them into icons and into the splash art (which will become 972x568). So you just need to provide the main picture.

On a side note: For Fort Knox, I think I want to remove the bonus gold per turn for each Gold copy you have. I dont know, I just dont think the point of Fort Knox was to make gold, just protect it, but I can understand how you would make a better economy with sticking to a "gold standard". I dont know, what do you guys think? Keep it how it is or remove the bonus gold all together? Maybe just make it give +5 gold a turn? Maybe instead have it give bonus xp for your land military units (since it is also a military academy)?
