other games you play?

My dad used to play Risk by himself, playing as all the armies...how the hell do you do that and play fairly for everyone?

Well ... when playing all players, you are a little limited in your diplomatic options, as bluffing other players is a little difficult unless you have a multiple personality. ;) But you can still look at the current situation and think "What would I do now, if I took over from a player who had to leave and found the board showing this situation?" Or you can assign a "personality" to each player, like aggressive, expansionist etc., and try to stick to those. Or you just don't care whether you play fairly or not ... when I was *very* young, I kind of simulated a soccer league with a small goal and a rubber ball (don't ask ;) ), and I always took great care that the team I favoured in real life would win. ;)

Being that civ players are more inteligent ( nerdy ) as a whole I would assume that some of you play games other then PC or console. Just wondering if you guys play board games or table top war games. I play Axis & Allies, risk, fortress america for board games and while i don't play table top mini war games like warhammer (please don't sue me GW for useing the word) I do make terrain for 25-28mm.

Played Settlers of Catan recently, that's quite nice, but you need a bunch of people. Good for holidays.

Playing a lot of Texas Hold 'Em Poker lately. We play it at the office frequently.

Cheapass Games do some fun board game stuff right now. Go check them out.

I used to play a lot of Axis and Allies, Risk, and many Avalon Hill games -- Luftwaffe, Flattop, Panzer General. Although they made some of those as PC games, I can't guarantee which name I'm remembering.

The Steve Jackson games killed. Car Wars, Ogre, some 1979 Iranian embassy rescue one...

Early on "Empire" was a great computer war game in the Amiga/Apple era. Also later re-released as "Empire Deluxe", and you can download it - free - and play it in WinXP.

But I'm still primarily a video gamer.

Not board games, but other computer games I like is Hearts of Iron 2 and Heroes of Might and Magic 3 WoG!

DSII, choosen mostly because moddability (moddable AI, graphics, FX, user dll support etc.) The basic games itself is simple fun too, Diablo-like kind.

Steel Panther Worlds at War - playing it for years. A great battalion level turn-based wargame, with huge realism. Lot of fun.
WinSPMBT - windows version of Steel Panther Main Battle Tank - modern battles.

Chess is about the only board game I still play. If I've had a few drinks I'll pull out Battleship occasionally. Darts, ping-pong, air-hockey and fooze-ball I enjoy. On the PC I play Civ as the dominant game. I will turn to Halo, Pirates!, Rainbow Six, and Splinter Cell.

I'll be getting BF2 or AOEIII later this month. I do a once a month media shopping trip where I go get a few new DVDs and sometimes CDs and/or games. A new cookbook gets in there about once a year.

I'm a Battletech man, m'self. Had a game going for a while, but people moved and other people had to work far away and....

Long and the short of it, I couldnt pilot Christine! She was a Stalker that had the unfortunate tendency to try to kill her pilot - but I tore out every piece of her I could and turned her into a crit monster - but never got to pilot her!
