Hey there..

I was wondering, do you guys build cities with an overlapping radius? or do you always build em further away from each other?

I generally try not to do that, except when the overlapping terrain is pretty much useless to either city, like a mountain or desert square without specials. I like to spread out initially in the choicer city sites, and then fill in the areas between later on.

Well as a rule I try to avoid it, but I will build cities with overlapping radius is that is necessary. Like in situations where there is a large piece of land with no city and I want to have many cities or I want to prevent barbs.

But there are other games, like GotM where I usually build cities with overlapping radius because I want more cities - but never to much!!!
And MP games where I almost always build them with overlapping radius.

I only do that if the resources are place weird or if im on a small island

I try to plan cities with minimal overlap, and minimize the unused terrain. But early game cities are often small for so long that it actually pays to place some of the first cities in your empire with a little more overlap than I'd like in mid/late game.

overlapping terrain is pretty much useless to either city, like a mountain or desert square

Personally, I find desert to be excellent terrain in mid/late game democracies. It's great... far better/more productive than forest! And it an be changed to plains easily, in very late game.
