Oz pre-order: CD-ROM not available?

just to change the thread tone slightly,
check out www.csw.com.au for civ4, they have it listed for $70.
Melbourne company but they deliver.
Was getting the RTW expansion pack but it failed to come out on time for my birthday in Australia so the money goes towards Civ4.

and just buy the dvd player! burners for $70 and readers for $40.

I noticed you can buy the game on Ebay.com.au for AUS$66.95, and it is the CD-ROM version. See here.

However, I am not sure of the downside of buying the game this way.

Now this is what i don't understand, why would they have it on CD in the US and DVD in Europe and Australia. Personally i dont see the logic of it all, i hope someone from firaxis would confirm whats happening with the situation

I too am from Australia but i've preorder it from EBgames.com, unfortunately i'll be receiving CDs instead of Dvd. Wonder will the local EBgames store here trade?

I've ordered the presale version from Amazon US and I'm having it shipped via shopthestates.com to Australia. I get the special edition, plus I might get it a few days before the 3rd November AUS release comes out ;p

Australia is a PAL territory and serviced by the European distribution chains. As it seems that Europe is getting only DVD, looks like we will only get DVD here in Aus.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

PAL is only for Television Sets, computer screens are universal. Not to say that the Euro distribution network is not supplying oz... but I think 2k Australia will be handling it directly personally

Wierd. My old computer had a CD-ROM, and ToT (DVD-ROM game) and it worked... I have trashed that machine since, though.

PAL Territory is just distributor speak for Europe, Australia, NZ and probably some other places too. It could even be applied to a place with NTSC tv's. A bit like having a Western Democracy in the far East.
