Quick Question...I am reading submissions for GOTM and wondering how the players managed to get more than one palace built in their empire? I was under the impression that only one palace could exist...

Its called the Forbidden Palace and can be built after a certain number of cities have been made.

I think he might be talking about all the mentions of palace moves and palace pre-builds and such, rather than the forbidden palace.

You can move your capital at any time by building the palace improvement in non-capital cities. The only thing is, it's a hideous number of shields, and keeps getting bigger the more cities you get. But people do move their palace with a great leader (set new intended capital city to build a palace then complete it with the leader), and they also use the palace improvement to get a headstart on great wonders that they could not normally beat the AI to (start building the palace in a non-capital city some time before learning the tech that enables the wonder you want to get, then when you learn the tech, switch production to the great wonder).

But you can still only have one actual palace (and thus capital) at one time. When you build a new one, the first one disappears.

Yes Renata that was the question. I was just reading a description of a GOTM and the writer kept mentioning a palace being built in a different city and it sounded like he was able to build multiple palaces. He must have been moving the one palace around....
